#EU: A petition to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement, the legal basis for the EU’s trade relations with Israel, reached almost one million signatures.

#UK: British Prime Minister Keri Starmer refused to join the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.

#VATICAN: Pope Leo XIV said he had “no intention to debate” with Donald Trump, after the US president criticised him over his comments on the US-Iran war.

#USA: A US judge threw out a $10 billion defamation lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump against The Wall Street Journal over its reporting of a birthday masseage to Jeffrey Epstein.  

PARTING SHOT

THE WORLD IS still facing the devastating and unpredictable consequences of Operation Epic Fiasco, Trump’s impulsive, foolish and brutal war against Iran.

His threat to obliterate a “whole civilisation”, a threat that he has not withdrawn, was profoundly wicked.

It was also ironic because it is the civilisation of the United States itself that he has brought right to the brink. It is increasingly self-evident that he is a malign actor in our troubled world.

Pope Leo’s forceful condemnation on Saturday of Trump’s barbarous war and of “the delusion of omnipotence” was welcome and timely.
