The New Electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class Has One Giant Screen Spanning the Dashboard

Mercedes-Benz is set to fully reveal the new electric C-Class in a few days, but before that, we’re getting a sneak peek of the interior and a fairly detailed brief about the new features coming its way. That said, the photo at the top of this story does a lot of talking all by itself. In case you thought Mercedes had any plans of dialing its screen game back, think again.

Mercedes does not specify exactly how large this new MBUX Hyperscreen is, but the number is hardly necessary in a world where it simply stretches from pillar-to-pillar. One important caveat here is that the Hyperscreen you’re looking at is optional; the “Superscreen” will come standard, though Mercedes doesn’t provide any photos or description for this lesser screen setup.

While most controls will be found in the screen, Mercedes includes a small row of buttons on the center console, and also brings a steering wheel full of haptic controls and a pair of physical toggles. The air vents take on a prominent design role, with two large turbine-style vents on the sides and rectangular vents in the center. Mercedes points out that it developed a new climate control system for this new C-Class EV that heats up quicker than any before it due to a new multi-source heat pump (twice as fast as internal combustion models, Mercedes claims). The auto climate control is also meant to dehumidify and cool the air only as much as necessary to prevent dry eyes.

Like so many other EVs, this new C-Class comes standard with a fully glass roof—and no, it does not open. Instead, Mercedes is offering a “Sky Control” option for the roof putting 162 illuminated stars there, ones that light up in coordination with the interior’s ambient lighting.

Both Nappa leather and a new fully vegan interior are available. The latter comes in an optional “Vegan Package” that Mercedes first showed off on the electric GLC-Class. Mercedes claims soft-touch surfaces throughout, and we’re intrigued to see what the whole setup feels and looks like. You’ll see a variety of wood trims on offer, though the interior showed off here appears to be fitted with a carbon-esque trim. The Burmester surround sound systems have stainless steel speaker grilles, and you can choose between a 3D or 4D system.

Mercedes says it developed new and optional “high-end” front seats with an electro-pneumatic four-way lumbar system and massage function meant to activate across the entire surface of the backrest. Fresh sound deadening strategies should take relaxation to an even higher level, too; Mercedes says new decoupling elastomer mounts between the suspension and body, a new, quieter electric motor design, and new air conditioning unit all reduce noise in the cabin.

Watch out for the full debut of the electric C-Class in a few days, where we’ll learn all the car’s specs and see the exterior design for the first time.
