A date night at a South Carolina Chili’s took a dark turn after a woman who felt uneasy with her suitor called for help, leading to a fight involving guns and knives.
Tristan Gabriel Letterman and Ariel Lagunes-Sarmiento, both 21, were taken into custody April 23 and charged with aggravated breach of peace after police say the two men got into a fight at the restaurant, according to a statement from the Sumter Police Department provided to Oxygen.com. Letterman is also charged with pointing and presenting a firearm.
Police were initially called to Chili’s Grill and Bar at 2505 Broad Street in Sumter at 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a man was seen pointing a gun at the restaurant, located in a popular retail area.
After arriving on scene, investigators learned that the dispute began after a woman began to feel uncomfortable during her date with one of the suspects and called a friend to assist her, according to the release.
“Once they arrived,” police said. “there was a confrontation during which a gun was pulled and the other suspect responded by displaying knives on his person.”
It’s unclear which man she had been on the date with at the time of the incident.
Although no one was hurt during the disturbance, Letterman and Lagunes-Sarmiento were both taken into custody and booked at the county detention center.
