League of Ireland Premier Division: 10-man Derry City hold on for a point at Bohemians
Derry almost took the lead inside the opening two minutes, Barry Cotter's long throw fell to Olayinka on the edge of the area, but the midfielder couldn't keep his effort down. The visitors continued to dominate the ball and control possession without really troubling Kacper Chorazka in the Bohs goal. That dominance was finally rewarded five minutes before half-time, Cotter's long ball was controlled well by Darragh Markey, O'Reilly then picked out Olayinka at the edge of the area who had time to take a touch before slotting home. O'Reilly, Brandon Fleming and Carl Winchester all had efforts blocked as Derry looked to double their lead before the break. Bohemians emerged for the second-half like a completely different team, playing with pace, directness and intensity before equalising on 52 minutes. A long ball from defence was headed into the path of Colm Whelan who Strods through, firing across Eddie Beach to the bottom corner of the net. Fleming and Ross Tierney both had efforts blocked down as an end-to-end contest began to ensue. The Candystripes were reduced to 10 men with eight minutes to play as O'Reilly picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Adam McDonnell. From the next play the visitors were infuriated that the home side were not reduced to 10, as Patrick Hickey caught the ball with his hands in mid air with Dipo Akinyemi seemingly through on goal had the play been allowed to develop. In a real game of two halves, Dawson Devoy fired over for the home side in injury time, but on the balance of play, a point each felt like a fair return. Derry City host Galway United at Celtic Park on Monday evening, while Bohemians are back at Dalymount Park to play fellow north Dublin club Shelbourne.
