A Chinese court handed down death sentences to 16 people linked to a notorious Myanmar-based scam centre group on September 29, 2025. According to state broadcaster China Central Television, prosecutors in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang found the Ming crime family had used its influence in Myanmarโs Kokang region to set up several โparksโ and collude with financial backers to carry out criminal activities, including fraud, drug trafficking and prostitution involving more than 10 billion yuan (US$1.4 billion).
