Trump: Navy will protect oil tankers through Strait of Hormuz

The Middle East is a major producer of both oil and natural gas, but its energy exports have now been largely cut off from the rest of the world by an effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump says the U.S. will offer political risk insurance to ships in the Gulf and "if necessary," begin escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
