U.S. President Donald Trump has criticised UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over what he described as a lack of decisive support for U.S. military efforts amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking in Washington DC, Trump questioned Starmer’s approach, saying the British leader should not need consultations to decide on sending support such as minesweepers or naval assets. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the UK’s response, calling for more enthusiastic involvement from allies.

Trump further emphasised NATO’s reliance on the United States, stating that global adversaries fear American military strength more than Europe.

The remarks come as tensions escalate after Iran responded to U.S.-Israeli strikes by deploying drones, missiles and naval mines, effectively disrupting the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.

While some European allies including Germany, Spain and Italy have ruled out participation for now, others such as the UK and Denmark have said they are considering options while stressing the need for de-escalation.
