Heroic firefighter saves person in River Liffey while collecting wedding ring

A heoric off-duty Dublin Fire Brigade firefighter has been hailed after he jumped into action after he noticed someone struggling in the River Liffey. Tom O'Reilly had just picked up a wedding ring in the city centre for his fiancée Lauren on Tuesday evening when he spotted the person in difficulty. Quick thinking Tom threw a lifebuoy into the water, successfully aiding in the rescue of the individual and bringing them safely to shore, reports the Irish Mirror. Dublin Fire Brigade saluted their own hero on social media, posting: "Off duty Firefighter/Paramedic Tom O'Reilly, who was in town to collect a wedding ring with his fiancé Lauren, sprang into action last night when he saw a person in the River Liffey. Tom threw a life 'ring' (soz) and brought the person into the quayside. From rings to rescue." The public heaped praise on Tom for his actions while also wishing him well on his imminent nuptials. A few cheeky nods to his impressive moustache were also included. Streetlink Homeless Support said: "Fantastic work, Tom. From the team at Streetlink, thank you for your service and congratulations to Lauren on your engagement. We wish you all the best for the future." Another person wrote: "Fair play to him for his life-saving actions and also on that whopper tache." One admirer gushed: "Beautiful moustache on this man. He's a credit to the country fair play to him." While another fan added: "Well done and thanks. Congratulations on the ring."
