Gardai seize 18 devices in paedophile image raids

Gardai searched nine premises and seized 18 devices yesterday as part of a global crackdown on paedophile images. The raids at nine locations here were part of the Polish-led Operation Fever, which was coordinated by Europol across eleven European states. 166 people have so far been detained under Fever, 111 of them for sharing and distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Those arrested were identified to have produced paedophile films and images, run paedophile forums online, shared or possessed child sexual abuse material and in many cases were suspected of having physically abused children. The Irish end of the operation was run the Online Child Exploitation Unit within the Garda National Protective Services Bureau and conducted by Gardaí attached to Divisional Protective Services Units. The force said tonight that it expects a number of arrests to be made “in due course”.
