New Tesla Model Y caught testing in India: Launch around the corner?
Tesla has made it clear that if and when it lands in India, it will only sell fully-imported CBU models in the country initially. There’s a lot of blabber going around Tesla in recent months, especially whether the American brand will find its way to India. Tesla has been playing hide and seek with the Indian market for a long time but a couple of months ago, the company blocked properties in Mumbai and Delhi for its upcoming showrooms.
However, we still don’t have a specific timeline for launch of the first Tesla model or exactly which model the Elon Musk-led company decides to bring out first. That said, a test mule of the Tesla Model Y has now been spotted testing on Indian soil for the first time. The coupe electric SUV has reportedly been clicked testing on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
Tesla Model Y: Expected Design
In fact, the fully camouflaged test mule caught on the camera is most likely the Juniper, i.e., the refreshed Tesla Model Y, which made its debut in China earlier in January this year and gets multiple updates over its predecessor. A video of the same has been uploaded on X by Ashish Pol. The Model Y makes the most sense for the Indian market since it gets the highest ground clearance among all the other Teslas.
Visual elements of the fully camouflaged Model Y test mule clearly visible in the spy video are C-shaped LED taillamps, a trapezoidal rear bumper, a glass roof, blacked-out alloys wheels, and a parabolic roofline. The facelifted Model Y is available in six paint scheme options, including Pearl White, Stealth Grey, Deep Blue Metallic, Ultra Red, Quicksilver, and Diamond Black. On the inside, there are just two options- Black and White all-black.
