Balbriggan to see major change over next 5 years under ambitious investment plan

Further plans are underway in the hopes of attracting job creating investment in Balbriggan. The move comes as part of Fingal County Council’s €54- 57 million Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme. The scheme aims to transform the town through public investment, and has seen work commence and continue on a number of key infrastructure projects, including a €15million re-development of the Quay Street and Harbour area. The plan’s locally-based leadership group, led by Dr David Begg, has finalised its work programme for 2025-2030 – and according to Dr Begg, the next five years will see major change in the town. Dr Begg said: "A key objective includes leveraging investment in the regeneration of Balbriggan by attracting new business, jobs and visitors." Plans were adopted for various pillar groups under the headings: Economic Development, Community Development, Education, Skills and Training, and Sustainability, Climate Action and Biodiversity. Each plan was brought forward by an appointed expert pillar chairperson. Dr Begg added: “The plans include a range of objectives and actions which will make a demonstrable positive impact across a range of economic, social and environmental platforms. Over 120 stakeholders took part in a series of workshops and public meetings, between September and February. “Participants included business people, representatives of public and local development bodies, as well as volunteer groups. Other objectives include developing access to a wide range of educational and training opportunities, empowering young people by amplifying their voices in decision-making, providing safe spaces and access to more comprehensive youth services, and actions designed to protect the environment and improve biodiversity. “Challenges and opportunities were identified. Pillar chairpersons will report regularly to the wider Balbriggan Leadership Group. Updates will be published on a periodic basis on balbriggan.ie.” Join our Dublin Live breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive your daily dose of Dublin Live content.
