Positano Photo courtesy of Treville Positano Treville Positano is an extraordinary haven nestled on the Amalfi Coast right on the edge of Positano, offering an unparalleled escape for discerning travelers — and a hotel that is truly incomparable to any other property I’ve ever visited. This iconic luxury retreat, once the private residence of renowned film director Franco Zeffirelli, seamlessly blends history, glamour, and natural beauty. With its breathtaking sea views, impeccable service, and commitment to authentic Italian experiences, Treville Positano is more than a hotel; it’s a transformative journey to a world of unparalleled luxury and relaxation. Zeffirelli’s Legacy: A Cinematic Escape Photo courtesy of Treville Positano Step into a world of glamour and history at Treville Positano. Once the cherished home of the legendary Zeffirelli, the hotel retains its original charm while offering modern luxury amenities. The hotel’s clifftop location provides breathtaking panoramic vistas of the Tyrrhenian Sea, creating an atmosphere of pure enchantment that you truly must see for yourself to believe. With just 16 suites spread across six villas — named after close friends of Zeffirelli (and previous guests at Villa Treville) — each offering private balconies or gardens, guests enjoy an intimate and exclusive experience. Each suite boasts a unique personality, reflecting Zeffirelli’s artistic vision and creating a truly unforgettable experience. The hotel’s commitment to privacy ensures an undisturbed retreat for travelers seeking solace and seclusion, and an atmosphere reminiscent of a home rather than a hotel. Photo courtesy of Treville Positano Staying at Treville Positano allows you to explore the hotel’s rich history through its architecture, design, and the captivating stories it holds. Artists including Maria Callas, Leonard Bernstein, Rudolf Nureyev, Coco Chanel, Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, and Richard Burton have all retreated here. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into a cinematic masterpiece, where every detail has been carefully curated to create an atmosphere of timeless elegance. A Timeless Coastal Sanctuary Photo courtesy of Treville Positano Perched dramatically on the Amalfi Coast, Treville Positano offers an idyllic escape that transports guests to a world of tranquility and sophistication. Escape the crowds and unwind at the property’s exclusive private beach, On the Rocks (one of only a few private beaches in Positano). This secluded haven offers a tranquil escape away from the bustling public beaches, while still garnering a breathtaking backdrop of the infamous colorful cliffside of the Positano town. Stunning sea views, comfortable sunbeds, and refreshing beverages make On the Rocks a highlight — and personal favorite of mine — at Treville Positano. Take a dip in the crystal-clear waters (which, I must admit, I enjoyed for hours on end, living out my best life wondering how this was real life) or simply relax and soak up the sun in this idyllic setting. Unparalleled Culinary Excellence from Chef Vincenzo Castaldo Photo courtesy of Treville Positano Indulge your senses at Treville Positano with a culinary journey that celebrates the finest flavors of the region. The hotel’s renowned fine dining restaurant, Maestro’s, offers a farm-to-table experience featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients from the hotel’s organic garden. Guests can also wander through the gardens themselves, and even pick their own produce to bring to legendary Chef Vincenzo Castaldo to incorporate into their meals. Photo courtesy of Treville Positano Chef Castaldo and Restaurant Assistant Manager Raffaele (AKA Lello) feel like old friends welcoming you to their home from the moment you step foot into Maestro’s (with the owner of Treville Positano’s cat also stopping by to say hello from time to time). Here you can savor exquisite Italian cuisine infused with Mediterranean flair while taking in the breathtaking coastal views from every table. The ambiance of the restaurant matches the time of day, shifting from an open-air lunch spot to a romantic dinner venue with elegant lanterns casting shadows across the terrace among the shining lights of Positano town shimmering in the background. Complement your culinary experience with innovative cocktails at the Bianca Bar, crafted using herbs and botanicals grown on-site. Photo courtesy of Treville Positano The food at Maestro’s is some of the best cuisine I’ve ever tasted in Italy, with the quality of the food being evident in every bite — and one conversation with Chef Castaldo will show you the love that goes into his cooking. Chef Castaldo has been working at Maestro’s for five years now and draws inspiration from Maestro Zeffirelli himself by keeping his photo hung on the kitchen wall for him to see each day. The menu is continually evolving with the changes in seasons — aside from a select few signatures that remain on the menu year-round (the Nerano pasta and lamb ravioli are two favorites) — to align with the local ingredients being grown on the property. Chef Castaldo explains to me that at Maestro’s, transparency is at the forefront of what they do. By showing me his hands, he proves he is a man of his word. Chef Castaldo harvests the ingredients himself before beginning his cooking, using seasonal produce in each meal he makes. However, pleasing the customer is of utmost importance to him. So he continues to share with me that if a customer requests a certain dish that is out of season, he is, of course, still happy to oblige to ensure the satisfaction of each and every customer who eats at Maestro’s. Beyond the Hotel Walls Photo courtesy of Treville Positano Discover the magic of the Amalfi Coast beyond the hotel’s gates. Explore the vibrant town of Positano, embark on a vineyard tour, or take a cooking class using fresh produce from the hotel’s farm. For a truly unforgettable experience, set sail on the hotel’s yacht, Luna Sea, and discover hidden coves and breathtaking landscapes. Final Thoughts Photo courtesy of Treville Positano Treville Positano is a once-in-a-lifetime destination that offers an unparalleled escape to the Amalfi Coast with a world of endless possibilities. The hotel’s impeccable service and staff, stunning location, and rich history truly create an unforgettable experience for discerning travelers. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be captivated by the hotel’s charm and attention to detail. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, adventure, or culinary excellence, Treville Positano delivers on every level. It’s a place where dreams are made and memories are cherished, and trust us, you’ll never want to leave. For the Best Views of Capri & the Faraglioni Rocks: Punta Tragara Capri Photo courtesy of Punta Tragara Hidden atop the picturesque island of Capri, Punta Tragara is an iconic five-star hotel property that offers a dream-like luxury escape. This historic property, designed by the renowned architect Le Corbusier, boasts breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, impeccable service, and a rich heritage that dates back to the 1920s. With its blend of modern elegance and timeless charm, Punta Tragara is a haven for those seeking the ultimate Italian getaway. A Historic Landmark Turned Cliffside Oasis Photo courtesy of Punta Tragara Designed by Le Corbusier in 1920 as a place “to heal your body, your soul, and your mind,” Punta Tragara is a masterpiece of modern architecture that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. The property has witnessed significant historical events, including visits from world leaders, including General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Sir Winston Churchill, during World War II. In 1968, Count Goffredo Manfredi purchased Punta Tragara as his private retreat on Capri. Captivated by its unique beauty, he decided to share this gem with others, and in 1973, the villa was officially transformed into the Punta Tragara Hotel. Perched on the dramatic cliffs of Capri, Punta Tragara offers a front-row seat to the island’s most stunning vistas. The hotel’s secluded location provides a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the popular Piazzetta, while its proximity to the vibrant town of Capri makes it easy to explore the island’s attractions on your own time. Indulge in Luxury and a World of Discovery Photo courtesy of Punta Tragara Punta Tragara offers luxurious accommodations that combine comfort and style. Each suite is thoughtfully designed with stunning sea views, modern amenities, and a touch of classic elegance. Relax on your private balcony or terrace, soak in the breathtaking vistas, and enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings. One of my favorite features of my suite was my balcony overlooking the famous Faraglioni Rocks, complete with sunbeds, a table and chairs, and an umbrella for the ultimate place of privacy and relaxation. Photo courtesy of Punta Tragara Immerse yourself in the tranquility of Punta Tragara’s two freshwater swimming pools, each offering a unique experience. The heated pool, adorned with soothing massage jets, invites you to relax and unwind. Or, escape to the unheated pool for a more invigorating dip. Whether you prefer sipping a poolside cocktail, basking in the sun, or simply enjoying the breathtaking views, Punta Tragara’s pools offer the perfect oasis for relaxation and rejuvenation, while looking out at a view that is a scene straight off of a postcard. You can also easily explore the vibrant town of Capri close by or embark on a boat tour to discover hidden coves and beaches and visit the iconic Blue Grotto. Punta Tragara’s prime location offers easy access to the island’s many attractions, allowing you to create unforgettable memories and experiences. Michelin-Starred Cuisine Photo courtesy of Punta Tragara Savor the finest Italian cuisine at Punta Tragara’s renowned restaurant, Le Monzù. Named after the title given to esteemed French chefs in Naples — an iteration of “monsieur” — Le Monzù embodies a perfect blend of tradition, experimentation, and quality. Le Monzù is a Michelin-starred dining experience, renowned for its exceptional culinary artistry. Enjoy world-class cuisine prepared by the extremely talented Caprese Chef Pedana who is passionate about showcasing the best of Italian gastronomy. Here you can indulge in a culinary journey that showcases the freshest local ingredients and innovative flavors. From traditional favorites to contemporary creations, the restaurant’s menu offers something to satisfy every palate. Le Monzù’s menu features a delightful fusion of traditional Italian cuisine with Mediterranean influences and international flair. I got to experience Chef Pedana’s delectable dishes first-hand, including the cuttlefish with green apple and glasswort, linguine with buffalo butter, seaweed, and oysters, tataki breaded amberjack with prickly lettuce, lemon, and pine nut sauce, and a Piña Colada dessert that melted in my mouth with an explosion of flavors, all while enjoying breathtaking views of Capri by night. I highly recommend complementing your meal with their selection of wines from the Tragara Wine Cave, which are expertly paired to enhance the flavors of your dishes. Final Thoughts Photo courtesy of Punta Tragara Staying at Punta Tragara provides you with a luxurious and transformative Italian experience on the island of Capri. As a historic property with a rich heritage, it provides guests with a sense of timelessness and exclusivity. The Punta Tragara staff is attentive to your every need and makes you feel taken care of from the second you arrive. The property’s welcome service sends a team to meet you as soon as you step foot off the ferry and onto the island, collecting your luggage and taking it straight to Punta Tragara so that you can enjoy the scenic walk to the hotel without hassle. When you enter your room you’ll find an exceptional homemade Caprese Cake, with a recipe card to take home, waiting for you. This traditional treat of Capri is a dark chocolate and almond cake that is soft in the center and crunchy on the outside, and topped with powdered sugar for the perfect bite! The hotel’s commitment to an unmatched experience, luxurious amenities with unbeatable views, and Michelin-star dining at Le Monzù (what more could you ask for, really?), easily make it our top hotel choice to stay at while on the island. This Capri cliffside oasis is a true hidden gem. Rome Photo courtesy of Bulgari Hotel Roma The Bulgari Hotel Roma is an extraordinary fusion of ancient grandeur and contemporary luxury. Nestled in the heart of the Eternal City, this iconic hotel offers an unparalleled experience, immersing guests in a world of opulence and refined sophistication. As a flagship property of the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts collection — and the most recent of its properties to open its doors — the hotel epitomizes the brand’s commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, impeccable service, and design excellence. Imperial Opulence: A Masterpiece of Design and History Photo courtesy of Bulgari Hotel Roma Immerse yourself in the opulence of ancient Rome at the Bulgari Hotel Roma. The hotel’s design is a masterful blend of history and modern luxuries, drawing inspiration from the era of Emperor Augustus — of whom they have an original Pentelic marble Roman sculpture from the Torlonia Collection awaiting your arrival through their front doors. Experience the magic of Rome in a setting that celebrates its rich heritage and cultural significance. Every detail, from the meticulously restored historical building to the exquisite furnishings, evokes the grandeur of the past. Elegant black, white, and gray marble covers the entrance of the Bulgari Hotel Roma from floor to ceiling, with museum-like glass cases of Bulgari’s fine jewelry lining the halls. Tall ceilings and wide hallways extend beyond your view, leaving you breathless and surrounded by incredible architecture from the moment you arrive. The hotel’s location in Piazza Augusto Imperatore, facing the iconic Mausoleum of Augustus and the Ara Pacis, places guests at the heart of the city’s historical center, offering unparalleled access to Rome’s most treasured landmarks. A Sanctuary of Serenity Photo courtesy of Bulgari Hotel Roma Escape the bustling city and discover a tranquil haven at the Bulgari Hotel Roma’s spa, an indescribable oasis of peace and tranquility. The spa’s serene ambiance, coupled with the expertise of its therapists, creates an unforgettable experience of wellness and rejuvenation where you can indulge in a pampering treatment designed to restore balance and harmony. Unwind in the 20-meter indoor pool inspired by the ancient Roman baths. I was left speechless at its beauty, featuring small waterfalls coming out from beneath the Bulgari logo. Marble pillars stand tall within the glowing turquoise waters and sparkling mosaics adorn the walls, reminiscent of the celebrated Baths of Caracalla (and if you ask me, it should be one of the Wonders of the World). Photo courtesy of Bulgari Hotel Roma The serenity extends beyond the spa and into the hotel’s 114 exquisitely appointed rooms and suites, each a haven of comfort and style. Just like the rest of the hotel, the interiors of the rooms seamlessly blend contemporary elegance with historical charm, featuring a palette of soft colors, rich textures, and bespoke furnishings. From the stunning Superior Rooms to the opulent Bulgari Suite, every accommodation offers a gorgeous living space featuring spacious layouts. Wood-paneled entryways guide you inside with illuminating light fixtures, and some suites even offer private terraces with unrivaled views of Rome (one of my favorite parts of my terrace was the quaint, tree-lined, quintessential Italian street it overlooked). Meanwhile, the bathrooms are adorned with the most exquisite marble I’ve ever laid my eyes on, complete with luxurious amenities fit for a modern-day Roman Emperor or Empress. A Gastronomic Journey Through Italy Photo courtesy of Bulgari Hotel Roma Embark on a culinary journey at the Bulgari Hotel Roma, where Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito presents a contemporary interpretation of Italian cuisine. From the elegant Il Ristorante – Niko Romito to the casual charm of Il Caffè, each dining experience is a celebration of the finest flavors and ingredients. If you’re looking for a curated cocktail, the Bulgari Hotel Roma also boasts a variety of bars. The Bulgari Bar is a stylish setting offering a sophisticated ambiance with a focus on classic and signature cocktails, while their Champagne Bar offers an intimate and private room to gather. La Terrazza, the hotel’s rooftop terrace is a true gem, boasting breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of Rome (the only one of its kind in the city). Here you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere for sunbathing, cocktails, and light bites. So, whether you’re seeking a romantic dinner or a casual lunch, the hotel’s culinary offerings undoubtably cater to every palate and occasion. Photo courtesy of Portrait Milano I experienced the Cryosuite, where exposure to extreme cold temperatures stimulates circulation, reduces inflammation, and boosts metabolism, as well as the Ultimate Biohacking experience, which combines cutting-edge therapies to combat fatigue, improve sleep, and enhance overall vitality. Having done cryotherapy before, I knew what to expect (and was excited for a much-needed spark back in my wellness journey), but the Ultimate Biohacking was unlike anything I have experienced before. The waterbed-like chamber mimics the feeling of being in the womb and restores approximately two to three hours of sleep back to your body (perfect for those arriving right off the plane and experiencing the unwanted effects of jetlag). Beyond the treatments, the spa’s serene ambiance, coupled with state-of-the-art facilities and a stunning indoor pool with beautiful architecture, creates an idyllic setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. Montepulciano Photo courtesy of Poliziano Winery Nestled amidst the rolling hills of Montepulciano, Poliziano Winery offers a captivating blend of history, tradition, and exceptional wines. With a rich family legacy dating back to 1961, Poliziano has become synonymous with quality and innovation in Tuscan viticulture. A Passion for Winemaking Photo courtesy of Poliziano Winery The Carletti family’s love for winemaking began with Dino Carletti, who acquired the first parcel of vineyards in Montepulciano. His son, Federico, continued the family tradition, bringing his expertise in agriculture and viticulture to the winery. Today, the third generation of the Carletti family carries on the legacy, ensuring that Poliziano remains a beacon of excellence in Tuscan wine production. The name “Poliziano” pays homage to the region’s rich history. In Italian, a native of Montepulciano is called a “Poliziano,” a term that evokes the area’s cultural heritage. The winery’s logo features Angelo Ambrogini, a renowned humanist and poet from Montepulciano, further emphasizing the connection to the region’s past. Commitment to Quality: A Taste of Tuscany Photo courtesy of Poliziano Winery Poliziano is dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Montepulciano region. The winery carefully selects its grapes, focusing on the indigenous Sangiovese variety, and employs sustainable viticultural practices. In the cellar, meticulous attention is paid to the winemaking process, from fermentation to aging, to ensure that each bottle captures the essence of the land. Poliziano offers a range of exceptional wines that showcase the best of Tuscan viticulture. From the flagship Vino Nobile di Montepulciano to the single-vineyard crus, each wine reflects the unique characteristics of its terroir. Experience the rich flavors, complex aromas, and velvety textures that have made Poliziano wines renowned throughout the world through a magnificent wine tasting at their vineyard. When at the Poliziano Winery, you can take a personal tour of the vineyard and cellar, seeing the magic for yourself up close and personal. One of my favorite parts of the tour included seeing their historical archives — a meticulously preserved room of vintage wines — in the tunnel that connects the winery to the barrel cellar. There, a library of vino awaits, where you can appreciate the evolution of the prestigious Poliziano label. A Memorable Experience Photo courtesy of Poliziano Winery A visit to Poliziano Winery is more than just a wine tasting and tour; it’s an immersive experience that allows you to connect with the history, passion, and craftsmanship behind the wines alongside members of Poliziano Winery’s expert team. Learn about the winemaking process from Loredana, and savor a selection of Poliziano’s finest wines with Fabio, both of whom will very quickly become your close friends. What makes this vineyard truly stand out from the rest is the family (both internal and external) that works at Poliziano Winery. Getting to meet the dedicated and passionate team was a highlight of my visit. They ooze knowledge and passion for their wines that are evitable with each historical story and sip savored during their tours and tastings. And we can’t forget to mention the beautifully designed space that makes you truly enjoy the essence of being at a Tuscan vineyard. Final Thoughts My visit to Poliziano Winery was a truly memorable experience. The passion and knowledge of the Carletti family and their team were evident in every aspect of my visit. From the vineyard tour to the wine tasting, I was captivated by the beauty of the estate and the quality of the wines. I highly recommend Poliziano Winery to anyone seeking an authentic and unforgettable Tuscan experience, from Italian vacation-seekers to wine connoisseurs alike (and don’t forget to ship home a few bottles of Poliziano vino before you leave so that you can continue your Italian escape long after you return home). Salute! *Bonus Restaurant Recommendation: Gucci Osteria Florence Photo courtesy of Gucci Osteria Gucci Osteria Florence is a Michelin-starred gem that offers a unique and unforgettable dining experience. Helmed by the talented duo of Karime López and Takahiko Kondo, the restaurant showcases a fusion of Italian and international flavors, presented with a playful twist. From the innovative dishes to the impeccable service, Gucci Osteria is a must-visit for food lovers seeking a truly memorable culinary adventure combined with the luxury of a designer fashion brand (in true Florentine *fashion*). A Culinary Powerhouse and Dynamic Duo Photo courtesy of Gucci Osteria Gucci Osteria Florence is a collaboration between the renowned chef Massimo Bottura and the luxury fashion brand Gucci. The restaurant is a testament to Bottura’s vision of creating a series of contemporary restaurants that share his values and principles. Located in the heart of Florence in the beautiful and historical Piazza della Signoria, Gucci Osteria offers a stylish and sophisticated ambiance that reflects the iconic Gucci brand. The restaurant’s culinary excellence is led by the talented duo of Karime López and Takahiko Kondo. López, a Mexican-born chef with a global culinary journey, brings her passion and creativity to the kitchen. Kondo, a Japanese chef with extensive experience at Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana, adds his precision and innovative techniques. Together, they have created a menu that is both imaginative and very, very delicious. A Fusion of Flavors Photo courtesy of Gucci Osteria Each dish at Gucci Osteria is a masterpiece of flavor, texture, and presentation. The menu showcases the chefs’ ability to blend Italian and international influences seamlessly, taking you through an exploration of their combined heritage and culinary inspirations. During my experience at Gucci Osteria, it was easy to see why the restaurant has earned a Michelin star. From each carefully curated dish on their tasting menu, to the personal touches at the table, to the utterly delicious fusion of flavor in every bite I took, each plate left me feeling happier and fuller — while also being surrounded by the beautiful Gucci brand (what more could a girl ask for?). Tasting Menu to Tantalize Your Taste Buds Photo courtesy of Gucci Osteria The tasting menu at Gucci Osteria Florence is a true culinary adventure. One of the most striking dishes, in my opinion, was the “Fuori dalla Norma.” This playful take on the classic pasta dish presents ravioli made with rice flour, reminiscent of Japanese gyoza, filled with the familiar flavors of eggplant, tomato, and ricotta salata. It is a delightful explosion of textures and tastes when bitten into — a testament to the chefs’ ability to bridge cultures on a plate while creating an unparalleled taste — plated inside a beautiful pastel Gucci Osteria tin box. Photo courtesy of Gucci Osteria Another dish, “Yellow is Bellow,” goes beyond the realm of taste, incorporating all five senses — and striking a sentimental chord. Inspired by the Japanese color of happiness, this beautiful yellow dish is made up of a culinary combination of chianina, tuna, and popcorn. Arriving alongside a scented piece of paper that evokes childhood memories of your Italian grandmother’s perfume, with a conversation starter typed on it, this experience prompts the table to discuss what happiness means to them. This unexpected element adds a layer of emotion to the dish, making it a truly immersive experience — and created a personal memorable moment for me during my time in Florence. Photo courtesy of Gucci Osteria To further elevate the experience, I opted for the “Grand Tour – Sommelier Experience.” With the Sommelier Experience, each dish is paired with a meticulously chosen wine that perfectly complements its flavors. The sommelier’s knowledge and passion for wine and food pairings were evident throughout my entire time dining at the restaurant, adding to the overall enjoyment of my meal. A Must-Visit for Food (and Luxury Designer) Lovers Photo courtesy of Gucci Osteria Gucci Osteria Florence is more than just a restaurant; it’s a playground for the senses. From the innovative dishes to the expert service and thoughtful details, it’s a place where food becomes an art form. From the hosts and the waiters to the chefs and the sommeliers, the team at Gucci Osteria is clearly the reason there is magic at this restaurant. Beyond the exceptional food, Gucci Osteria Florence offers a memorable dining experience. The restaurant’s stylish decor, attentive service, and impeccable ambiance create a truly special atmosphere. Final Thoughts Photo courtesy of Gucci Osteria From sipping on a classic Gucci cocktail at the Giardino for an aperitivo to the exquisite cuisine served at the Osteria for dinner, my recent visit to Gucci Osteria was an unforgettable experience. The chefs’ passion and creativity shone through in every dish, and the attentive service made me feel like their most valued guest. If you’re looking for a truly unique and memorable dining experience in Florence with exceptional cuisine and ambiance, look no further than Gucci Osteria. Venice Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa Tucked away on the private Isola delle Rose, the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa redefines what it means to experience Venice. While most travelers step straight into the bustle of the city’s canals and crowds, this property offers something few others can: space to breathe, a tranquil atmosphere, and the rare feeling of having an entire Venetian island to yourself. A short, scenic boat ride from St. Mark’s Square, the resort is a refined, five-star sanctuary where nature and luxury exist in perfect harmony — and trust us, it’s as magical as it sounds. A Private Island Retreat in the Heart of the Lagoon Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa From the moment you arrive via sleek private water taxi — James Bond style — you’ll know you’ve entered somewhere special. The hotel’s welcome is warm and elevated: a perfectly chilled aperitivo waiting, crisp sea breeze brushing your skin, and a sense of calm unlike anything else in Venice. Setting itself apart from the touristy city stereotype, this lush, 16-hectare island is home to century-old gardens, a blooming orchard, olive groves, and open-air walking trails that wrap around the water’s edge (an absolute favorite of mine to explore while I stayed at the property). The scent of roses floats in the air from their treasured rose garden all summer long, a nod to the island’s name and its storied past as a royal retreat and 20th-century respiratory clinic. Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa There is a palpable feeling of history and magic here, something that truly sets JW Marriott apart from its competitors — although it’s hard to even put another property in the same category as one located on its own private island. Originally built in the 19th century, the island was once a center for healing — a clinic for respiratory diseases, thanks to its unique microclimate of saline lagoon air and Mediterranean flora. Even now, the air feels especially pure, as if simply breathing it in begins your wellness journey. I spent mornings walking the perimeter trail beside still waters, accompanied only by chirping birds and the occasional splash of a gondola in the distance. It was the ultimate contrast to the frenetic energy of Venice’s main canals. Exclusivity at Its Finest Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & SpaPhoto courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa The 266 accommodations are divided into the JW Main Hotel and the more private JW Retreats, including La Residenza, L’Uliveto, and Villa Rose. Each offers its own personality, but the Retreats truly stand out as sanctuaries within a sanctuary. I stayed in one of the private residences with its own plunge pool, a setup that felt almost too good to be true: a secluded terrace for sunbathing in peace, a garden lush with blooming greenery, and uninterrupted views of the water just steps away. These villas are ideal for longer stays, romantic getaways, or those looking for the kind of privacy that even the most discreet luxury hotels can rarely provide. Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & SpaPhoto courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa What elevates this property even further is its reputation as the go-to retreat for celebrities and high-profile figures who attended the 2024 Venice Film Festival. While that information only became public after the event concluded to maintain the privacy of their VIP guests, knowing that the resort housed A-listers during such a high-profile occasion speaks volumes about the level of service, security, and sophistication it offers. And yet, despite this elite aura, the atmosphere remains warm, never pretentious. Staff greet you by name, anticipate your needs, and create a feeling of being at home — albeit in the most indulgent, exclusive version of home imaginable. Next-Level Dining and Culinary Innovation Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa The culinary offerings at JW Marriott Venice rival those of any destination restaurant. At the heart of it all is Agli Amici Dopolavoro, a refined fine dining concept curated by two-Michelin-starred chef Emanuele Scarello and his sister Michela. The menu this season is rooted in sustainability and features a “Lagoon Tasting” and “Garden Menu” that utilize ingredients foraged from the surrounding waters and gardens. Think cuttlefish with seaweed, vegetables harvested mere steps from the kitchen, and olive oil pressed from the resort’s own grove (some of the best olive oil you will taste, in my humble opinion). It’s more than a meal — it’s a poetic expression of place. The name “Agli Amici Dopolavoro” pays homage to both culinary legacy and cultural heritage — “Agli Amici” nods to the Scarello family’s Michelin-starred restaurant in Udine, while “Dopolavoro,” meaning “after work,” evokes the site’s 1920s-era social club roots on Isola delle Rose. Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & SpaPhoto courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa Equally memorable were my meals at the Sagra Rooftop Restaurant, a more casual yet no less impressive venue perched at the top of the main building. The stunning rooftop pool located adjacent to the restaurant offers a 360-degree panorama of the city and the lagoon, making it one of the most breathtaking swimming spots in Venice. Evenings were made for aperitivo at golden hour with views of the shimmering lagoon, San Marco Campanile rising in the distance, followed by fresh seafood and housemade pastas. I lingered over soft-baked bread, seasonal vegetables, and rich Italian desserts, as a blanket of stars covered The Floating City. Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa The culinary experiences go beyond just dining. One of the most charming surprises? The resort’s “chic-nic” baskets — perfectly packed picnic sets guests can enjoy in the gardens under the shade of olive trees or on a blanket by the water’s edge. At the Sapori Cooking Academy, guests can learn the secrets of Venetian cuisine — including how to make traditional biscuits or hand-roll pasta — in a bright, beautiful space filled with local produce and laughter. This, combined with the property’s genuine farm-to-table approach, makes JW Marriott Venice not just a place to eat but a destination for food lovers. Wellness, Nature, and the Luxury of Space Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa The wellness program at JW Marriott Venice is thoughtful and robust, centered around the largest spa in Venice. It feels more like a temple of tranquility than a hotel spa. I experienced an exceptional hot stone massage that allowed my muscles to fully relax and my mind to reset, all while being in a sanctuary of serenity. The spa also features a vitality pool, bio-sauna, hammam, spa garden, and both indoor and outdoor pools overlooking the water. You can spend a full day moving between relaxation areas, sipping detox teas, and emerging fully restored and ready to soak up the remainder of your Italian getaway. Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa Fitness and nature lovers will be equally satisfied. The resort has a fully equipped gym, outdoor yoga in the gardens, and, new for the season, two padel courts with programs launching soon. I loved starting my mornings with a quiet run around the island trail — the scent of saltwater and roses in the air, the light soft and golden, the path peaceful and completely my own. It was one of the most grounding and rejuvenating routines I’ve ever experienced while traveling. Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa Sustainability is also at the forefront. From the JW Garden that supplies the resort’s restaurants with fresh produce to its ongoing partnerships with ethical brands like gOOOders and V73, every detail is intentional. Even the resort boutique curates its wares with a conscience, offering Venice-themed pieces that are beautiful, responsible, and entirely unique. Final Thoughts Photo courtesy of JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa There is something deeply magical about JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa — not only in its luxurious amenities but in its ability to make you feel truly at peace. Whether you’re sipping spritzes on a rooftop, soaking in a private plunge pool, or falling asleep to the lull of waves outside your villa window, the experience is transformative. It is a rare gem that invites you to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and savor a completely elevated and less-trodden side of Venice. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2025, this iconic resort is marking a decade of excellence in Venetian luxury hospitality. For honeymooners, wellness seekers, multigenerational families, or seasoned travelers craving a new type of luxury, this is the property that will surprise and delight every step of the way. If you’ve done Venice before, do it differently this time. Do it right. Do it from Isola delle Rose.
