So...Why Isn't ‘Andor’ Coming Back for Season 3? Here's What to Know About the Potential for an Extra Season

This season of Andor on Disney+ has been so intense, showing us the most brutal acts of the fascist, evil Star Wars Empire without a single lightsaber battle or the sound of any shaky, rattling Darth Vader breaths. It's like a history lesson filled, alternatively, with hope and tragedy. It's also, thanks to an overwhelming three-episodes-a-week release schedule, almost over. Here's what we know about Andor Season 3. Spoiler alert: the Force is not with this one... So is Andor coming back for season 3?Unfortunately, this is the end for Andor. There will be no Season 3. But it didn't get canceled. According to Deadline, when the series was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2022, they set the intention that this would only be a two part, or two season, series with 24 total episodes. Before that announcement, however, there were vague plans for Andor to get up to five seasons. Alas, show-runner/creator Tony Gilroy told ComicBook.com that the scale of the show made five seasons "physically impossible" to do. As much as it sucks that we won't get more Andor after this, consider the rate it takes for shows like this to be made these days. Could you imagine having to wait 2-3 years between three more seasons of Andor? We'd be here until 2031 at the earliest, and more likely closer to 2034! One more season would have been nice, but ultimately I'm kind of glad we're getting the ending now. Watch 'Andor' on Disney+OK, well, happens after Andor Season 2, then? The series finale of the show should lead right into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the 2016 film starring Luna as Cassian Andor. So we not only know what happens next, we can watch it ASAP. Other characters who appear in the series and Rogue One include Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, Orson Krennic, General Draven, Sergeant Melshi, Saw Gerrera, and of course K-2SO. Tony Gilroy, the creator of Andor, is a credited writer on Rogue One. The two seasons of the show and the movie are basically a trilogy. The only downside is that if you're a fan of Andor, you've probably already seen Rogue One. (If you haven't, I'm so jealous that you get a little movie moment to keep the story going.) Lucasfilm Ltd.Will any Andor characters show up in any spin-offs or new shows? I, for one, would be very interested in the continuing adventures of some of the female characters like Kleya, Bix, and Vel who don't appear in Rogue One. But a lot of that will depend on who survives the Andor series finale. They might not all make it! This is a harsh series about the realities of being in a rebel army. But if they do live past the events of the final episode, there is always the possibility that these characters will show up again. The Star Wars franchise loves to bring people back. Just look at Mon Mothma, for example. Over 20 years ago, George Lucas cast Genevieve O'Reilly to be in Revenge of the Sith and play the younger version of a Senator who had just a few memorable lines in Return of the Jedi. O'Reilly's scene in Revenge of the Sith didn't even make the final cut of the movie. It only exists as a deleted scene on the DVD. But then, in 2016 and 2017 she reprised the role in Rogue One and the animated Star Wars rebel. The rest is history! I have a feeling that we'll see some of our Andor faves again in some way.
