Sarah Sherman Responds to Aimee Lou Wood’s Criticism of SNL's ‘White Lotus’ Sketch

Nearly a month after Saturday Night Live's White Lotus sketch aired, Sarah Sherman is responding to Aimee Lou Wood's criticism. This is the first time Sarah, who played Aimee's character Chelsea in the sketch, has publicly commented on the sketch and her role in. “I was excited to play her because she's so iconic, her character is so iconic, and I f***ing obviously never meant to hurt anyone's feelings,” Sarah said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset. I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad.”Sarah continued, saying that she sees the controversy as a learning opportunity. “The show is in constant dialogue with culture as it's happening, and it happens really fast,” she said, explaining that she's learning to be more “vigilant” about how her work on SNL interacts with the real world. “Being in conversation with everything popular culture, there's such a danger there. Sometimes you just don't realize how it comes across, but you're put in a position to be engaging with it all the time,” she added.View full post on YoutubeQuick refresher: Aimee called out SNL in April for making her teeth the butt of a joke in the (mostly) political pre-tape, “The White POTUS.” She made her discomfort known in a series of Instagram Stories, calling the joke “mean and unfunny.” She clarified that she welcomed being made fun of—as long as “it's clever and in good spirits,” but the joke here was just about her teeth, not anything else. She continued, “The joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth not bad teeth. I don't mind caricature—I understand that's what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”Hours after her post, she updated fans, saying she had received an apology from SNL and telling fans not to attack Sarah. A few days later, Aimee revealed that Sarah had sent her flowers as a peace offering, which she accepted.
