The staggering salaries needed to rent one bedroom home in every Dublin postcode
Housing Minister James Brown admitted that rents in Ireland are "way too high" as new housing measures were unveiled earlier this week. The Cabinet agreed on Tuesday to extend and modify the Rent Pressure Zone (RPZ) legislation, which is due to lapse at the end of the year. This will see rent increases capped at 2% for new tenancies. Additionally, a six-year tenancy rule was announced which will see no-fault evictions. After six years, the rent can be increased to match market rates. Speaking earlier this week, Minister Browne said: "Our rents are way too high in this country, we know that. We know the only way to address that is increasing supply, so we have more competition, and then you will start to see rents go down."
