Gardaí Resume Search of Dublin Property in Annie McCarrick Murder Investigation

Gardaí have resumed their search of a property in Clondalkin, Dublin this morning, following the arrest of a man in connection with the murder of Annie McCarrick—an American woman who went missing over 32 years ago.McCarrick, originally from New York, was 26 years old when she disappeared from her home in Sandymount on March 26, 1993. Her case remained one of Ireland’s most enduring missing persons cases until it was officially upgraded to a murder investigation in 2023, after a request from her mother, Nancy McCarrick, to Garda Commissioner Drew Harris. Yesterday, detectives arrested a man in his 60s in the Irishtown area of Dublin on suspicion of murder. He is currently being held at a Dublin Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Specialist forensic teams and heavy equipment have been brought to a residential property in Clondalkin, where parts of the house and garden are being searched as part of the investigation. Gardaí have confirmed that the current occupants of the property are not connected in any way to McCarrick or her disappearance. This marks the first arrest in the decades-long investigation. Gardaí are continuing to appeal to the public for any information that might assist the investigation, stressing that even seemingly minor details could prove significant.
