Man arrested after gardai seize more than €2 million worth of various drugs
A man has been arrested after gardai seized more than €2 million worth of various drugs in Dublin and Laois. Officers from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), with assistance from the Clondalkin Drugs Unit, stopped a car on the M7 in Laois yesterday evening. They found around €100,000 worth of cocaine in the car. A follow-up search in west Dublin then uncovered €1.2 million worth of ketamine, €160,000 worth of cannabis, €530,000 worth of cocaine, and €210,000 worth of heroin. The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene of the first seizure on the M7, and is currently being held at a garda station in Dublin. A garda spokesperson said: "An Garda Síochána has seized approximately €2.2 million of controlled drugs and arrested a male following an operation conducted yesterday, Friday 11th July 2025. Yesterday evening, as part of ongoing investigations under Operation Tara targeting drug trafficking networks, officers attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) with assistance from the Clondalkin Drugs Unit, intercepted a vehicle on the M7 motorway in County Laois. "Approximately €100,000 worth of suspected cocaine was discovered and seized by Gardaí. A male, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region. "A follow-up search was conducted of a residence in West Dublin which resulted in a further seizure of an estimated €160,000 cannabis, €1.2 million ketamine, €530,000 cocaine and €210,000 diamorphine. A quantity of cash and a number of items were also seized by Gardaí. "The seized drugs, with a total estimated street value of €2.2 million, have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Investigations are ongoing."
