European Championship winners Spain will face Copa America champions Argentina in the ‘Finalissima’ game in Qatar next March, UEFA announced on Thursday.
This contest between the two continental champions was revived in 2021 when UEFA and CONMEBOL strongly opposed FIFA’s plans for a biennial World Cup.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina outclassed Italy 3-0 in the 2022 contest and will return to the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, where they were crowned world champions three years ago.

The match is scheduled for March 27, 2026, with kickoff at 9 p.m. local time.
Spain and Argentina have met 14 times, with both teams winning six times each.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said: “The Finalissima brings together two continental champions in one of football’s most prestigious occasions, highlighting the game’s truly global reach and the enduring bond between our confederations. We look forward to a memorable night of world-class football and celebration."
CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez added: “This emblematic match is more than a competition; it is a symbol of cooperation and respect between confederations, and an opportunity for fans to enjoy a truly historic event."
H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, Minister of Sports and Youth and Chairman of the LOC, said: “Qatar is proud to host this prestigious match between two champions. We have a track record of delivering world-class sports events, providing an exceptional experience for fans, supporters and media. Hosting Finalissima 2026 further demonstrates the trust our partners continue to show in Qatar."
How Spain-Argentina Qualify For Finalissima?Spain secured their spot in the 2026 Finalissima by winning the European championship in Germany in 2024. They defeated England 2-1 in the final held in Berlin, claiming the title for the fourth time.
Argentina also earned their place by successfully defending their Copa América title in the United States in 2024. They clinched the trophy for a record 16th time by defeating Colombia 1-0 after extra time in the final in Florida.
