The Chittoor district police have stepped up road safety awareness campaigns while simultaneously strengthening drone-based surveillance to curb unlawful activities in public spaces.
As part of the ongoing campaign to promote road safety measures, Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi on Monday (January 05, 2025) launched a helmet awareness initiative on the busy Chittoor–Tirupati National Highway near Rangampeta Cross. Deputy SP (Chittoor) T. Sainath was also present. The officials installed a prominent flex banner highlighting the mandatory use of helmets for two-wheeler riders.
Deputy SP Sainath stressed that head injuries account for a majority of fatalities in road accidents and that wearing a helmet can significantly reduce the risk of death and serious injury. He said that the helmet rule applies not only to riders but also to pillions. He urged strict compliance in the interest of personal safety. Given that the Chittoor–Tirupati stretch is among the most congested corridors in the district, the Deputy SP called for a sustained awareness drive to instil road discipline among motorists.
Meanwhile, the SP directed the police personnel to expand the use of drone surveillance across the district to monitor public spaces. He said that during a recent operation, Chittoor I-Town police detected three groups consuming alcohol at a forested location near Sambayya Kandriga village through drones. Police teams rushed to the spot, detained those involved, and initiated legal action, he added.
Chittoor Urban Inspector Maheswara Mopuri cautioned that consuming liquor in public places, unlawful gathering in groups, and engaging in anti-social activities are punishable offenses. He said that strict action would be taken against violators, while adding that drone surveillance would continue in the interest of public order and safety.
