Tekla Evelina Severin and LAYERED Double Down on Color

It takes an extraordinary eye to see color the way Tekla Evelina Severin – also known as Teklan – does. Not only can she find and pair harmonious colors together in a way that feels unexpected and fresh, she can incorporate them into compositions of simple lines and shapes to create rugs that are anything but basic. After the success of their first collaboration, Swedish interior design brand LAYERED once again partnered with Severin for a second collection –  Teklan Collection 2025 – one that pushes even further into how color, geometry, and perception can reshape a space.

A modern interior with salmon-colored walls, tiled floor, a large green rug, and a geometric-patterned hanging textile in shades of brown, pink, and olive

Their first collaboration, The Prism Collection, introduced Severin’s bold, graphic approach to color through striking compositions. This latest chapter moves beyond bold color-blocking into a more nuanced exploration of scale, rhythm, and spatial illusion. “I like when design is rooted in a system but allows room for personal expression,” Severin shares. “Working with rugs is like sketching a new geography for a room – you influence how people move, how they perceive scale and surfaces. I like the idea that a rug can either enhance a space or create a deliberate break within it.”

The collection, made from 100% wool, features three core patterns: Diagonal, Labyrinth, and Fregio – each presented in two carefully considered colorways.

A woman with blonde hair sits on a retro-style green and yellow sofa, wearing a patterned coat and yellow socks, with her arm resting on the back of the couch

Teklan has an affinity for stripes, but with Diagonal, she rotates the familiar motif and introduces a simple contour to create movement and depth across the floor. The design comes in a bold blue-and-burgundy combination, as well as a warmer sand-toned option.

A person in a red dress walks up a wooden staircase with circular cutouts; a geometric-patterned rug and a single vase on a shelf appear in the foreground

Drawing from her experience with spatial installations, Labyrinth is designed like a maze for the eye to wander through. The graphic composition – available in coral and pink or mulberry and sand – unfolds through clean lines and transitions, referencing Italian architect Carlo Scarpa and his monument La Tomba Brion.

A person in a green dress stands on a yellow rug on a red-tiled terrace with red columns and walls, overlooking a green garden

Finally, Fregio is inspired by the floor frieze, the decorative band or border that runs along the edge of a floor. Acting like a graphic frame for the room, the rug emphasizes edges and boundaries, adding structure without visual weight. It’s available in a colorway of olive, blush, and burgundy, or butter and blossom, inspired by the iconic outfits of Pippi Longstocking and Annika – bringing a wink of childhood nostalgia to a very grown-up design.

Color is nuanced – we all perceive and respond to it differently. Yet Tekla Evelina Severin’s mastery lies in her ability to create palettes and compositions that feel universally compelling. Bringing her vision to life, LAYERED translates color and geometry into rugs that quietly shape how a space is experienced for years to come.
