Samsung is rolling out new wallpapers and themes for Stranger Things fans, though the additions seem to be locked behind a Netflix download.
Samsung announced a new collaboration with Netflix for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. For reference, the show debuted in 2016 and was a major contributor to the success of modern-day Netflix. If you want an even deeper cut, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were released that year, debuting the first iteration of AOD from the company.
The promotional Netflix partnership brings a new Stranger Things-inspired theme and set of wallpapers to Galaxy phones. Samsung details five different wallpapers that users can choose from, inspired by characters and scenes from the show.
The themes should be available starting today, January 12, for Samsung Galaxy users. The press release makes an interesting claim, noting that the theme and wallpapers are free for “those who download or launch the Netflix app.” It isn’t a big ask, but it does leave out users who don’t have the Netflix app on their device. It’s unclear whether or not that distinction means users need a paid subscription.
