Ireland fans do double-take over 'Temu' version of star player
Ireland fans had to do a double-take this week after thinking a star player had made a shock transfer to the lower leagues of England.
Fans were left chuckling on social media over Yeovil Town’s announcement of a new signing, who has a strikingly similar name to one of Ireland’s recent heroes.
The non-league side saw their post on X get well over a million views in a rare attention spike, though the comments quickly revealed why.

On Monday, Yeovil announced the signing of Troy Perrett, on loan from Cardiff City until the end of the season.
Fans were quick to point out the near-exact parallel between the new signing’s name and Ireland striker Troy Parrott.
Parrott made global headlines in November for his hat-trick in Budapest that sent Ireland to the World Cup playoffs.

The 23-year-old’s 96th-minute winner went viral all over the football world, making his name more recognisable than ever before.
On the other hand, Perrett is a 19-year-old Welsh midfielder who has made four senior appearances for Cardiff.
While the move appears to be a good one for Yeovil, fans quickly flooded the comment section with jokes about the similarities between the two players’ names.
One X user wrote: ‘What in the Lidl is going on here?’
Another laughed: ‘When you order Troy Parrott from Temu.’
A third added: ‘When your mum says no because you have Troy Parrott at home.’

Yet another shared: ‘Is this Troy Parrott from an alternate universe?’
While Parrott has not made a shock trip to Yeovil, there was plenty of speculation that he could be involved in a January transfer.
Following the Dubliner’s heroics during the November international break, where he scored five goals in two games, rumours of a big move began circulating the striker.
Parrott currently plays for AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, scoring nine goals in 12 Eredivisie games this season.
His form for club and country has linked him with a move to the Premier League, with Leeds, West Ham and Everton all named as potential destinations.
However, at the halfway point of the January transfer window, it appears that Parrott will be staying put at the Dutch side until at least the summer – when he will hopefully be lining out for Ireland at the World Cup.
