Who wins at Sha Tin? In-form Emblazon can make the leap to Class Three

It might be the calm before the storm with a pair of Group Ones next week and the Classic Mile the week after, but there are still 11 winners to be found on Sunday’s card at Sha Tin.

Jay Rooney is in the hot seat to provide an extended rundown of his selections.

Race 1 – Class Five Rugby Sevens Handicap (2,000m)

In a field of stayers who struggle to win, Chateau Le Peche could be a value play with a return to the course and distance of his only victory and a good draw.

Race 2 – Class Four Cycling Handicap (1,200m) – first section

Vigor Eye hasn’t been beaten far on his first two starts and can improve with the addition of cheek pieces and barrier one.

Race 3 – Class Three 15th National Games Hong Kong Medallists Cup (1,000m)

The Unique Star won three of four starts in Australia and has trialled very well for new trainer Brett Crawford, including a close second to the talented Magnifique.

The Unique Star runs second to Magnifique (outside) in a recent trial. Race 4 – Class Four Swimming Handicap (1,400m) – second section

Devas Twelve has a terrific record in this grade and at the course and distance. He can get across from gate 14 in a race lacking speed and prove hard to catch.

Race 5 – Class Four Cycling Handicap (1,200m) – second section

Cloud Nine kept on well from the front for third on debut and can come forward with natural improvement and a better draw.

Race 6 – Class Four Swimming Handicap (1,400m) – first section

Top Time didn’t have much luck last time out at Happy Valley but can strike here from gate three with Zac Purton on board.

Race 7 – Class Four Triathlon Handicap (1,600m)

In what looks an open race, Aerovolanic hasn’t been far away on his past two starts and should get an ideal run from gate two.

Race 8 – Class Three Sailing Handicap (1,200m)

Aurio rises in grade after a dominant last-start victory and has drawn wide, but he can sit off what should be a very strong speed and swoop late.

Aurio cruises to victory under James Orman. Race 9 – Class Three Fencing Handicap (1,400m) – first section

Emblazon arrives in Class Three for the first time in tremendous form with two wins and a second from his past three starts. He will be hard to beat again.

Race 10 – Class Three Fencing Handicap (1,400m) – second section

Super Express showed big potential last season with a win and three seconds. He returns off the back of some nice trials and can strike despite a wide draw.

Race 11 – Class Three Tennis Handicap (1,600m)

Ka Ying Attack steps up to the mile for the first time but his recent form, trial and perfect draw in gate one give him a great chance to make all.
