Donegal toddler on life support may need to be transferred to UK

The family of St Johnston toddler Daibhin Curran say there is a possibility he may need to be transferred to the UK in the coming days.

The 21-month-old remains critically ill at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin following an emergency heart procedure.

Little Daibhin was rushed from Letterkenny University Hospital to Crumlin last week for the surgery and is now battling myocarditis and cardiomyopathy, along with rhinovirus and parvovirus infections.

Little Daibhin is currently being supported by an ECMO machine – the highest level of life support care available in Ireland – as his parents Barry and Megan Curran stay by his side.

An update from Daibin’s aunt said he remains very unwell and doctors are continuing to monitor his condition closely.

“There may be a possibility that Daibhin may need to be transferred to the UK in the coming days,” Lisa said.

Lisa thanked the public for their overwhelming support shown to the family through donations, messages and prayers this week.

A GoFundMe page set up on Monday has raised over €45,000 thanks to the incredible kindness of over 1,000 donors.

Lisa added that the family will continue to provide updates as often as possible and asked: “In the meantime, please keep Daibhin and his Parents in your prayers, we appreciate them all. OUR LITTLE WARRIOR.”
