Why Davis wants the fight decided early
Davis has repeated one idea all week without decorating it. “I don’t want to leave this in the judge’s hands. I like fighting, so let’s do it.” He offered no tactical outline and no detailed explanation of changes. “You all will have to see. The amazing Keyshawn Davis, he’s back.”
Madison Square Garden was described as familiar ground rather than pressure. “My first fight after I returned from the Olympics was at The Mecca of Boxing…Madison Square Garden.” His focus stayed on scale, not nerves. “I’ve never fought in front of a sold out crowd. It’s amazing.”
Behind the scenes, Davis has changed direction. He is no longer working with Brian McIntyre, a move he connects to moving into a new stage. His long view remains loud. “In 2026, I’ll be on that pound for pound list.”
Why Ortiz trusts tools over talk
Ortiz arrives without showmanship. The southpaw has rebuilt quietly and speaks like someone who knows how thin margins can turn. “I learned a lot, especially to not leave it to the judges. I don’t expect it to go to the scorecards.”
He described the night as progression, “I’m going to get over this hump and take somebody’s old way that night.” When asked what that requires, Ortiz stayed grounded. “I’m going to take out all the tools that I have and show everyone that there’s levels to this.”
Both fighters landed on the same concern without prompting. Neither trusts the cards. That usually tells you where each feels exposed once the jab starts landing and space tightens.
