Scott Bessent bashes 'hooting and hollering' liberals that can't fathom Trump's economic success

Donald Trump's Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had some choice words for Congressional Democrats during a Sunday appearance on Fox News.

Bessent told Fox News Anchor Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures that Democrat lawmakers on Capitol Hill 'can't compete on economic growth, because the president's plan is working,' and that 'they want to hoot and holler' instead.

This past week, Bessent appeared for hearings on Capitol Hill before both the House of Representatives, where he clashed with lawmakers numerous times.

In one notable exchange, Bessent went toe-to-toe with California Democrat Maxine Waters over the President's tariffs at a House Financial Services Committee hearing.

Waters, in an astonishing outburst as Bessent attempted to answer her, asked the committee chair: 'Can you shut him up?'

Bessent fired back at the time with a withering response: 'Can you maintain some level of dignity?'

During his Sunday Fox News segment, Bessent went back to business after his quick jab, noting 'what the stock market is telling us' is 'we're going to have very strong economic growth and very strong job gains and very strong real income growth.'

Bessent also celebrated inflation at 2.1%, 'strong growth, stocks at a record high, and the lowest crime rate in over 100 years.'

While on Capitol Hill, Bessent also clashed with Congressman Greg Meeks, another Democrat on the committee, who pressed Bessent on the President's business dealings, including a $500 million stake in Trump's cryptocurrency firm that was sold to a member of the Emirati royal family.

When Bessent pushed back by asking Meeks about his own trips to Venezuela, the Congressman yelled at him: 'Stop covering for the President.

'Don't be a flunky. Work for the American people. Work for the American people. Don't be a cover-up for a mob.'

Bessent later mocked a question from Representative Stephen Lynch, D-Mass, about shuttered investigations into cryptocurrency firms. Lynch expressed frustration with Bessent's interruptions, saying, 'Mister Chairman, the answers have to be responsive if we are going to have a serious hearing.'

Bessent replied, 'Well, the questions have to be serious.'

Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren was another member of Congress who clashed with Bessent this last week, when she asked if he would 'commit right here and now that Trump's Fed nominee, Kevin Warsh, will not be sued, will not be investigated by the Department of Justice if he doesn't cut interest rates exactly the way that Donald Trump wants.'

Bessent replied that all in all, Trump's earlier remark about suing Warsh 'was a joke.'
