The cost of living really bites: ANZ welcomes staff back to the office by charging them $10 for a sausage and bread

While most Aussie workers grin at the thought of a free feed on the boss' dime when they 'work lunch', staff at one of Australia's Big Four banks have been left disappointed.

Staff at ANZ Centre Melbourne, in Docklands, have been given the opportunity to enjoy a sausage in their office's BBQ area at a cost of $10 per person on Wednesday.

That fee includes one sausage in bread, onions and condiments, a soft drink and an ice cream.

If staff want an extra sausage, it'll set them back another $5.

The price point would knock any fan of a Bunnings sausage sizzle off their feet with the hardware giant selling sausages in bread for $3.50 and cold drinks for $2.50.

The cost of onions or condiments don't rate a mention at the warehouse - to charge would be un-Australian.

'ANZ Catering welcomes you back to the office!' a sign posted in the office read.

'We will be hosting a sausage sizzle in the Core B BBQ area for ANZ staff.

The sausage sizzle appears to be a regular event with a similar lunch, at the same price, held on December 9.

Staff will also need to carefully time their lunch break with the sausage sizzle only running for one hour from 12pm.

There's no indication the sausage sizzle is a charity event.

While the office's catering social media page has stayed quiet, commentator The Aussie Corporate shared his thoughts on the lunch, writing: 'Grim stuff at ANZ, making you pay $10 for a sausage sizzle.'

Daily Mail has contacted ANZ and ANZ Catering for comment.
