The brains behind the Green Party's plans to legalise all narcotics has claimed drugs barons are running scared of Zack Polanski because he could 'put them out of business'.
The Greens are proposing to legalise drugs including crack cocaine and heroin for recreational use because they 'enhance human relationships'.
They also back the sale of cocaine drinks on Britain's high streets and of Class A drugs including ecstasy and psychedelics at nightclubs and music festivals.
With the Gorton and Denton by-election approaching, Labour has attacked the Greens' drugs policy, saying Zack Polanski's 'blueprint for a drug-ridden Britain' would 'turn children's playgrounds into crack dens'.
But Green Party councillor Alex Armitage, a lead author of the policy, said on Tuesday that legalisation and regulation of drugs 'protects young people'.
Speaking to camera from a children's playground, Mr Armitage said the decision to make drugs illegal just over 50 years ago was 'a massive experiment that's gone badly wrong' and that prohibition handed control of drugs regulation to 'organised criminals'.
In legalising all drugs, the councillor claimed Green leader Zack Polanski would strike fear in the hearts of drugs barons – who would be left looking for work.

He said: 'Think about the people these drugs barons are most afraid of.
'They're not afraid of the police.
'They're not afraid of the Labour Party.
'They're afraid of the people that could put them out of business - and that's Zack Polanski.'
Mr Armitage, a consultant paediatrician and Green Party councillor in Shetland, compared the legalisation of drugs to that of guns – which are legal in the UK with a firearms certificate.
'Guns are legal in the UK, but you don't have a firearms aisle in the supermarket…because we have a very strong regulatory framework to keep people safe'.
He said 'the same principle' applies to the Greens' drugs policy.
A Reform spokesman said: 'It's clear that the Greens have no respect for the safety of our families, our communities or even our country.
'Their extreme policy of legalising all drugs like crack cocaine and heroin would be an absolute disaster for communities like those in Gorton and Denton.'
Mr Armitage is heading to Gorton and Denton for Thursday's by-election, in which the Green Party hope to return a fifth MP to Parliament.
Condemning Labour's claims on the policy last week as 'desperate lies', Mr Polanski said the Green Party has a 'specific manifesto commitment to 'preventing children accessing drugs'.
He added: 'If Labour cared about people as much as they did smearing political opponents, they would back Greens' call for a national commission on drugs to see how we can reduce the harm drugs cause.'
A Green Party spokesperson said: 'This Lab government has failed to break the hold of the drugs gangs who freely sell drugs to children right now.
'We want to take the control out of drug dealers' hands and make it more difficult for children to get their hands on them.
'This policy is about regulation and a public health approach.'
