It has already been named as the most expensive city in Europe for mini-breaks.
But now Edinburgh is trying to entice wealthy whisky connoisseurs with a bespoke luxury three-night stay – costing an eye-watering £60,000.
The experience at the five-star Balmoral Hotel comes with a bottle of a rare whisky, an exclusive night at a castle venue, and other treats.
Owned by Rocco Forte Hotels, the hotel is located in a landmark building at number 1 Princes Street which dates back to 1902.
Its celebrity guests have included Kylie Minogue, J-Lo, Beyonce and author JK Rowling, who spent six months there writing the final chapters of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Those wealthy guests who sign up for the holiday will be given an 81-year-old bottle of Glen Grant single malt from their Speyside distillery.
Distilled in 1945 at the close of wartime Britain, it is described as ‘one of the oldest and rarest Scotch whiskies in existence’.

The pricey package also includes a behind-the-scenes visit to the headquarters of whisky firm Gordon & MacPhail for a private tour and tasting.
This is followed by an exclusive-use, overnight stay at Rothes Glen castle in Aberlour, Banffshire, complete with private dining and chauffeured travel through Speyside.
The experience continues with a private visit to the Johnstons of Elgin mill, offering insight into Scotland’s textile heritage, before returning to Edinburgh for two nights in The Balmoral’s Scone & Crombie Suite.

Guests will enjoy a fine-dining meal at the hotel’s 4 AA Rosette restaurant, a personal wine tasting hosted by the Head Sommelier in the Number One wine cellar, and a whisky tasting.
The journey concludes with a choice of ‘signature moments’ at The Balmoral, such as a bespoke session with the hotel’s poet in residence or Scent Butler, or your very own bagpipe lesson.
The exclusive package has been described as one for the ‘world’s most discerning’ whisky collectors.
Ross Barr, manager of SCOTCH Whisky Bar at The Balmoral, said: ‘Anchored by the acquisition of one of the world’s rarest whiskies, it grants unparalleled access to cultural heritage, master custodians and exceptional hospitality across Scotland; culminating in a refined legacy-defining journey we are proud to represent.’
Last year, a Post Office Travel Money report ranked the capital as the most expensive city break destination in Western Europe with a two-night stay, meals and sightseeing costing £600.
