The officially released Scary Movie trailer is here, and it’s better than I could have imagined. Not only does it parody just about every recent horror movie under the sun, but it absolutely does not give a f*ck.
The tagline basically sums it up: “Every line will be crossed.”
But before we get to that, let’s talk about this past weekend’s leak and why it was so special. It delivered that rare feat of capturing a live, authentic audience reacting to the trailer for the very first time, and they are loving it. Every beat the Wayans deliver is landing, and it looks hysterical. I can’t imagine a more perfect way to experience this trailer than with an audience laughing and cheering. Paramount is on fire right now.
Digressing, this is the right place and the right time for a Scary Movie, which promises to push the envelope about as far as they can (seriously, I buried the lede). Everything’s become too “safe,” and the Wayans are the right people to punch “safe” right in the f*cking nose. Inject this shit straight into my veins.
For those keeping count, here are some of the movies lampooned in Scary Movie: Terrifier 3, Weapons, Sinners, A Quiet Place, Annabelle, MA, Get Out, The Substance, andM3GAN – shit, it even takes multiple jabs (or stabs, if you will) at the new Scream films, which is the main reason the 2000 Scary Movie is so damn good.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (Ghostface), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (Shorty), Shawn Wayans (Ray), Anna Faris (Cindy), and Regina Hall (Brenda) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.
Paramount will release Scary Movie in theaters on June 12, 2026.
