It’s the final stop on what's been a whirlwind Fashion Month, meaning the industry has once again descended on Paris.
After the polish of New York, London’s left-of-centre energy and Milan’s heightened glamour, Paris arrives with a certain authority. There’s a confidence to the way people dress here during fashion week — it is the global fashion capital, after all. We're only one day into the sartorial festivities, and already we've noticed a crowd less concerned with spectacle, more attuned to nuance.
This season’s schedule is stacked, and you can feel it on the city's streets. With creative shifts at houses like Dior, Balenciaga, and Chanel continuing to ripple through the industry, showgoers are dressing for the occasion — flexing their fashionable literacy in conversation with what's happening on the runways.
Outerwear, unsurprisingly, leads the charge as the last of winter lingers in Paris. We've seen everything from floor-grazing wool coats, to leather jackets and faux fur. There’s also a noticeable return to tactility this February, whether it be distressed denim, brushed mohair, a woven leather bag, or heavy boucle. In other words, texture does the talking. And the models, as always, are delivering a masterclass in looking chic without trying. Amongst them, we've already noticed an abundance of denim (in particular, boot leg and skinny styles), graphic T-shirts, hoodies, and coats. Accessories are where their personalities really shine, from vintage bags to corded headphones.
In a season once again marked by transition and recalibration, the streets of Paris reflect an industry thinking carefully about what comes next. As the shows unfold, we’ll be watching not only what walks the runway, but what walks between them.
