Welcome Back to Paradise: Hulu’s Post-Disaster Sci-Fi Series Renewed for Season Three

Hulu’s genre-jumping show Paradise isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. With the second season just about to wrap up, Hulu has ordered a third season of creator Dan Fogelman’s series, which stars Sterling K. Brown (shown here promoting the new season Love Actually-style) as a Secret Service agent in a very changed world. According to Variety, “Season 2 has been viewed for over 30 million hours thus far, while the first season has seen a 25 million-hour lift since the launch of the second season.”

This was all part of Fogelman’s plan. He had a three-season vision for Paradise from the get-go, telling The Hollywood Reporter last year, “Each season of the show is a slightly different show, within the same show with the same characters.”

Paradise premiered with an episode that seemed like a typical murder mystery, only to reveal that it was all taking place in a massive bunker after a disaster rendered the Earth’s surface uninhabitable. Or did it, really? As one must expect in any semi-end-of-the-world setting, the truth is rather more complicated. The logline for season two said, “Xavier searches for Teri out in the world and learns how people survived the three years since ‘The Day.’ Back in Paradise, the social fabric frays and new secrets are uncovered about the city’s origins.”

Paradise is the name of the bunker city, which is run by the oddly named Sinatra (Julianne Nicholson). In the trailer for season two, it’s described as “like before, only creepier,” which is a decent enough description for many of the bunkers in SFF entertainment (The 100, Silo).

Paradise also stars Enuka Okuma, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Krys Marshall, Aliyah Mastin, Percy Daggs IV, and Charlie Evans, with recurring guest stars James Marsden, Shailene Woodley, Thomas Doherty, and Jon Beavers. Brown, Marsden, and Nicholson were all Emmy-nominated for their work in the first season; Brown was also nominated for a Golden Globe.

Paradise is on Hulu; two episodes remain in the second season. icon-paragraph-end
