Asian nation flags rescue mission as Australia faces fuel emergency

Waste contractors have written to Energy Minister Chris Bowen for assistance as fuel shortages and soaring diesel prices push the sector to breaking point.

They have warned that Australia could face widespread rubbish pile-ups within weeks as they wait to be granted priority status for diesel under emergency fuel arrangements. 

Meanwhile, Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers has warned business leaders that the financial impacts of the ongoing war in Iran could be worse than Covid and the Global Financial Crisis.
