Daniel Radcliffe’s Epic New Movie With Near-Perfect RT Score Finally Releases On Netflix Next Week

Beloved Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has a new movie, Merrily We Roll Along, hitting Netflix on April 4, and if the star-studded cast isn't enough to draw interest from audiences, then its current near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes absolutely should be. Long before Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along was ready to hit a streaming service, it began as a Broadway show that opened on November 16, 1981. Even Radcliffe's role in this story started off on the stage, alongside co-stars Jonathan Groff (known for a range of roles, from King George III in Hamilton to Jesse St. James on Glee, among many others) and Lindsay Mendez, who has appeared in a number of roles, most notably in a long-running stint as Sara Castillo in All Rise. The trio led a Broadway run of Merrily We Roll Along from 2023 to 2024, for which the production received multiple Tony Awards in 2024, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical, Best Orchestrations, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. Following on that success, a proshot of the production was released in theaters on December 5, 2025. Now, that proshot is making its way to Netflix, and its arrival is accompanied by rave reviews from critics and audiences alike on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, both groups are seeing eye-to-eye on the success of the movie, as its audience and critics scores are both sitting at an impressive 95%, and they have been since the theatrical release. The story centers on composer Franklin Shepard (Jonathan Groff) and the complex relationship that he has with his two best friends, lyricist and playwright Charley Kringas (Daniel Radcliffe) and writer Mary Flynn (Lindsay Mendez), over the course of 30 years. Ultimately, Merrily We Roll Along raises questions about friendship, success, dreams, and how much of oneself someone should be willing to lose in order to achieve their goals. It is with this emotional backdrop that Groff, Radcliffe, and Mendez—frankly, unsurprisingly, given their various backgrounds—delivered powerful performances that were highly praised by critics and audiences alike. It's worth noting, however, that audiences should go into this Netflix release expecting it to feel like a proshot of a Broadway show, not a full-fledged blockbuster. Also worth noting is the fact that it seems not all Netflix accounts will have access to the release on April 4 (and it's currently unclear when and/or if that will change in the future). Reportedly, only Netflix account holders with no-ads plans will be able to watch Merrily We Roll Along when it releases, due to licensing restrictions. This Netflix release of Merrily We Roll Along also coincides with the upcoming release of HBO's new Harry Potter TV series, as well as Daniel Radcliffe's ongoing Broadway production, Every Brilliant Thing, which features Radcliffe in a sort of one-man show that asks for varying degrees of audience engagement—something that has garnered the production significant attention, particularly online. Release Date December 5, 2025 Director Maria Friedman Writers George Furth, Moss Hart, George S. Kaufman, Stephen Sondheim
