When Mad Men recently became available on HBO Max, it inspired plenty of people to either watch for the first time or begin a rewatch… Including series star Jon Hamm. Don Draper himself recently told Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live that he’d been digging back into the show that made him an Emmy-winning star.
Hamm said that this was his first time sitting down with Mad Men since it originally aired, and that he’s watching it with his wife Anna Osceola (an actress who had a small role in the series finale). “It’s a pretty good show,” he said. “I’m very into it. I think this was kind of a great way to do it because I’ve got ten-plus years of separation on it, so it’s kind of like watching a different person up there and a different experience.”
Hamm added that while he remembers almost all of his scenes, “I don’t remember a lot of the stuff that I wasn’t in, so I’ll be like, ‘Oh, I forgot that that happened.'”
According to Hamm, he and Osceola are about two-thirds of the way through the second season, having arrived at the episode “Six Months Leave,” “which is where Freddy Rumsen pees his pants, and there’s a whole thing. There’s so many great things happening in the show: Don and Betty are really in a rocky place. Peggy is just being kind of, is just ascendant. Joan is engaged to be married, so there’s all this stuff that’s percolating. Of course, I know how it all ends, but boy, it’s a pretty exciting show. I’m pleased.”
Thankfully for Hamm and the rest of us, the show’s 4K transfer to HBO Max has had its puke machine issues sorted out. A beautiful Blu-ray box set of the complete series is also available via Amazon.
