It is one of the most important honors one can hold: the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Now Carey Mulligan is among its recipients.
The award will be presented by King Charles III himself during a ceremony at Windsor Castle. A striking venue, a unique—if not unrepeatable—event, and a more than exclusive parterre: how, then, to present oneself at such an important appointment? A question the British actor answers by sporting a chic and sophisticated look.
Accompanied by her husband Marcus Mumford, frontman of the group Mumford & Sons—impeccably dressed in a dark gray double-breasted suit with peak lapels, along with a white shirt and powdery tie—Carey Mulligan appeared in a black and white outfit.
Catching the eye was her ivory jacquard jacket, embellished with an intricate beaded design and featuring a high mandarin collar, scalloped hem, and a hidden button placket. In contrast to the well-fitted jacket, which enhances the actor’s silhouette, an oversized black straight-leg trouser—all magically designed by The Row—matching a pointed-toe ballet flat. Finally, to top it all off: a pair of oversize Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses and delicate dangling earrings.
“I feel so unbelievably lucky to get to do a job that I really, really love,” Mulligan told PA Media during the ceremony, adding, “To have this kind of recognition on top is just sort of extraordinary to me.”
The honor is given in recognition of the significant impact that recipients have made through their work, and past winners have included John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Cate Blanchett, and Victoria Beckham. As of this week, this illustrious list also includes the Promising Young Woman actor, who could not have chosen a better outfit for the occasion.
