From office to bar: Here’s what the ‘RUSSH’ editors are wearing on high rotation

The transition from office to bar is an art form we’ve had to master by necessity. Whether it's an unexpected event that requires a swift change of pace or simply the desire to feel a little more "evening-worthy" after eight hours of desktop screen time, the RUSSH team has the process down to a science.

For some of us, it’s a simple game of addition and subtraction – usually involving a strategic lipstick and the abandonment of a laptop. For others, it’s about a base uniform of crisp tailoring and well-cut denim that works overtime from the first morning coffee to the final round of drinks.

Here is exactly what we’re wearing on high rotation to bridge the gap between the workday and the evening (without looking like we've spent the day at a desk).

It isn’t rare that office attire needs to evolve into something evening-worthy when you work in fashion – so it feels like most of the RUSSH team have it down to a fine art. Personally, I like to prioritise comfort with a great pair of trousers (loving the Wynn Hamlyn Stella Low Rise Jeans) and a fun top (that I can change into toward the end of the day).

If the event calls for it, I’ll have a real Devil Wears Prada moment and slip out of my usual loafers and into a pair of heels – maybe these Anonymous Copenhagen Gwen 75 wedges? And likewise, I’ll trade in my work bag for a chicer purse. Right now I’m obsessed with the Oroton Finn Crackle Broguing Bag. Of course some beauty minis are a must too: for me, it’s all about the MERIT Intro Set followed by a spritz of TSU LANGE YOR Sage’s Rose (I carry the mini size in my purse).

I am a firm believer that a heel, some eyeshadow and texture spray are the trio that will guarantee a successful transition from the office to bar, every single time. I’m lucky enough to have a carpark fairy on my shoulder (I don’t know what I did in my past life to deserve this), so I am a regular driver when I visit the office every now and then. While my mini cooper is a matchbox on the road, it is the gateway to Narnia in the form of storage for heels, makeup, outerwear, you name it.

Heels I have on stand-by are these Dries Van Noten 65 leather mules, and these Phoebe Philo Leather pumps. But if I want to keep my heels firmly on the ground, these MM6 Maison Margiela Ballet Shoes are a sexy evening option.

Eyeshadow I turn to often is the Fara Homidi Beauty Essential Eye Compact but I also reach for DIOR's Backstage Eye Palette. A product I want to pick up is Victoria Beckham's Eye Wardrobe Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette – have heard great things.

Finishing touches from the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and MERIT's Retrospect L’Extrait de Parfum. And I must include a chic jacket for upcoming cooler months, that is perfect for going out after work. Maison Essentiele's Penny Lane Jacket. Divine.

When I was in my early twenties, my absolutely favourite, fool-proof office-to-bar look was a loose white tee, with a leather skirt and heels. I would just take my hair down and add mac cosmetics Ruby Woo before I headed out. I’m so happy to report that this vibe is wholly back in again, in fact, I just pulled out one of my old vintage leather pencil skirts from storage. I’m also closely eyeing this St Agni leather skirt as I also think it fits the brief.

When I was doing some perusing on Sunday night, I picked up these Assembly label tees in black and one in white. They’re the perfect top for this look. Another look I favour is a slinky camisole like this piece from Courtney Zheng which works perfectly with jeans and a blazer. It’s also perfect to go over a well-tailored pair of suit pants, my current wishlist pair are this Biana Spender pair, they’re devastatingly beautiful.

The thing that makes or breaks an office-to-bar outfit for me is the bag. Anything ludicrously capacious is not chic, but at the same time it needs to be big enough to carry your things through the work day. The Oroton Louisa is quite literally the perfect happy medium. And, instead of Ruby Woo, these days I gravitate to Merit’s lip combos for the perfect Nina Park lip.

I tend to dress with practicality and comfort in mind, so my office-to-bar outfits are usually quite streamlined. As the seasons shift, I’ve been making a more conscious effort to introduce a bit of colour and variety into my wardrobe whether that’s through an accessory or a statement piece. Recently, I received a Katharina Lou plaid skirt (I’ll never say no to a good check moment). I don’t think I’ve ever had so many compliments on a piece. Lately, I’ve been pairing it with a simple tank and flats, adding a grey knit as the temperature drops.

I’ve also refreshed my denim with a new pair from Agolde another piece I know will be on high rotation. I’ve long admired Paloma Wool, and these grey capri pants feel like the perfect transition from workday to date night. This purple Acne bag is more of a wishlist addition, but it’s just the right size for essentials beyond my laptop. Since I’m lucky enough to walk most places, these Miu Miu sunglasses have been a lifesaver in the early morning sun now that daylight savings has wrapped up.

In this industry, you have to be prepared for almost any occasion at a moment's notice. Even though the sunsets are early now, a pair of sunglasses are a must. I just got these Khaite x Oliver People sunglasses, and like every pair of sunglasses I have ever had, they will be used till their last breath. My pair of Love Isabelle hoops are the perfect day-to-night accessory, and I like to keep my accessories simple.

A classic piece everyone would have is a white shirt. I love this one from COS, paired with a pair of blue jeans and Bottega Veneta pumps. The only shoes I will wear from day to night, they have the best grip and are incredibly comfortable. And if we’re going out, mints are a must. I mean they are a must for me regardless but particularly in this instance. Fishermen Friends are the only ones I use — in extra strength. And to put them in, I just got a bag from the Dragon Diffusion x Rixco collaboration, it is a classic and never going out of style. Being black, it can go from day to night.

My theory on ‘office to the bar’ dressing is that it’s all about simple addition and subtraction. Heels go on, laptop bag goes away, lipstick goes on, blazer comes off. It’s simple maths we all can manage, even after a long day at the office. As beautiful as the Aesque laptop sleeve is, she is staying at the office whilst some little mules from Margiela get slipped on.

A red lipstick from either Tom Ford or Dries Van Noten is going on with a little statement earring for a bit of night time sparkle. I have been dreaming of this ear climber from Sarah and Sebastian. However, additions and subtractions aside, the Beare Park Frederick coat is going absolutely everywhere.

The key to an effortless transition from work to dinner, in my opinion, lies in a well‑cut matching set. I’ve had my Aje Studio Marcelline Jacket and Jean on high rotation lately, with a sleek heeled loafer; this pair from Phoebe Philo is just divine.

If you’re carrying a larger work tote during the day – like this carry-all from Scanlan Theodore – slipping a smaller bag inside is a simple move that makes all the difference come evening. This compact option from KHAITE is perfect for paring things back, adding a little flair while still holding just the essentials.

A travel‑size version of your signature scent is another non‑negotiable. This set of three from Parfums de Marly is ideal – one for your work bag, one for your evening bag, and a spare, just in case. My YSL Love Shine Plumping lip gloss in Honey Pure Love comes with me everywhere.

And for those inevitable, unexpected downpours between the office and the bar, a chic umbrella, like this monogrammed style from Oroton, will mean that even in the wildest of weather, no one will question if you’ve just come from work.

I often plan social engagements straight after work, so I’m lucky I can lean on my ‘daily’ wardrobe to carry me through.

I recently picked up a few pieces from Venroy that have been working overtime - this cashmere v-neck is a perfect throw-over for any outfit, and these grey woollen pants, with their ruched waistband, have an appealing edge for day-to-night.

A great pair of denim can span just about any occasion. Whenever I wear Lee Mathews denim, I’m guaranteed a compliment. I tend to dress them up with a collarless blazer from Harris Tapper and a mule (which I keep in my work drawer), though a fun sneaker works too for long days on your feet. For something more casual, I’d pull on an Adidas x Wales Bonner trackpant with a long coat layered over, paired with a carry-all St Agni bag and some fine jewellery – Mejuri does some of my favourite – I stack the simple hoops with a pavé pair.

I am well-versed in the office to bar outfit pipeline. Fortunately I’m pretty casual across the board, so I can usually rely on a base formula and tweak it, pending the occasion. I like classic tailored pieces that stay crisp throughout the day (i.e. crumple resistant). Black trousers are a staple – I have this crepe P Johnson pair in black and navy. I wear them all the time. On top I’d probably add an easy white t-shirt (I love Bassike – I recently bought this V neck) and a great blazer. I love Toteme, Acne Studios and anything vintage.

For the bar portion of the evening, I’d remove the t-shirt, keep the blazer and add some jewellery. I have a Dorsey tennis necklace I wear a lot, or my Monika Ruggerino diamond pendant. I also love hunting for vintage omega collars on Etsy. This is on my wish list right now… And despite my penchant for monochromatic clothes, I like coloured accessories. These Julietta beaded necklaces are gorgeous and reasonably priced (I love the blue and the green). Imagine them stacked? Divine.

The last step is a makeup refresh. Probably CHANEL lipstick (I wear Natural Charm all the time) and a top up of my current favourite fragrance, Frederic Malle Contre Jour.
