Proof Anne Hathaway (aka Andy Sachs) is red carpet royalty

Several films throughout history have tried — and failed — to convince us that Anne Hathaway (or at least, the characters she has portrayed) lacked sartorial prowess. In the Princess Diaries, it took a grand Cinderella-style transformation for Mia Thermopoulis to realise the extent of her princess-worthy qualities. And in the original Devil Wears Prada, before arguably the most iconic fashion montage ever put to screen, Andy Sachs is rarely seen in anything other than ill-fitting knitwear and dowdy loafers.

But in real life, Hathaway's red carpet history tells an entirely different story — one of a woman who has had great style in her bones, right from the very start. It's never been more apparent than right now, with both the long-awaited Devil Wears Prada sequel and A24's Mother Mary just weeks away from our screens, and Hathaway delivering look after look on the promotional tours in the lead up. Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, Vaquera... Hathaway's recent looks read like a who's-who of designers.

Of course, behind every Princess stands a fairy godmother, and for Hathaway, it's her current stylist Erin Walsh. Having previously worked with Law Roach, it became evident that his avant-garde approach didn't quite align with Hathaway's essence. But since since joining forces with Walsh in 2022, the duo have consistently delivered sartorial perfection with each and every appearance.

Now more than ever, Hathaway is a force to be reckoned with on the red carpet and beyond. She's even embodied arguably her most fashionable on-screen counterpart, The Devil Wears Prada's Andy Sachs. Perched next to Anna Wintour (aka the real-life Miranda Priestly) at the Michael Kors Spring/Summer '23 show, the actress donned bangs and brown leather, in a look (seemingly) plucked straight from the movie. And for that, Erin Walsh, we salute you.

In honour of her impending return to Runway magazine, we're rounding up some of Anne Hathaway's best looks, both on and off the screen.
