RTÉ star tells how her handbag was stolen after car break-in

Katja Mia has spoken of her relief after she got her expensive designer handbag back after it was stolen from her car.Katja, who announced earlier this month she’s joining 2FM and departing the Six O’Clock Show on Virgin Media, was the victim of a break-in at her apartment block.“My car was broken into,” she told her social media followers. “I park in a private carpark of my apartment area and you need a key fob to get in, so I don’t know how this man got in.“But he broke into my car, using the fire extinguisher and he even left the fire extinguisher in the car which was just hilarious. (We) tried to get fingerprints on it but like he’s obviously a pro, there was no fingerprints.Read moreYoung man (20) jailed for scaling six-foot wall to escape Garda custody“My bag was in there and usually I’d never, ever leave my handbag in my car,” she explained. “But I had my handbag in there, my work handbag. I guess the joke is on me for leaving it in there but I was helping my dad out of the car and I was like, I’ll come back for my handbag later, but I just never did so I guess it’s kind of my fault.“So the break in happens Sunday night, (and) come Monday I’m still unaware that the car has been vandalised but I do get a call from my boss saying that a Garda station in town has your property and your work ID in the bag.Crime Wrap Saturday April 25 “So (he gave me the) number and I called them back and I’m like I don’t recall like losing the bag in town or someone nicking it off me. I went out on Saturday but I came home with all my stuff, so you know, I’m a mature adult, I got my stuff together.“And then an hour or two later I’m going down to my car because I was going somewhere that’s when they realized it was broken into. I literally was setting my wedding planner and I was mid chat when I see the glass everywhere.“But anyway it turns out the guy robbed the bag travelled into town somehow from where I live and was trying to sell this vintage Louis Vuitton bag that I had on Moore St. And the guards on the streets saw him with it and thought that’s probably not yours. Turns out it wasn’t, found my work ID and identified it as mine.Read moreLinesman ‘regrets’ punching match official in the face over refereeing decision, court hears“The instincts of a woman — shout out to that guard, because that is the reason why I have my handbag back,” Katja said. “When it happened, I was just in the midst of a very testing week, and it was just the cherry on top.“It’s grand; a broken window can be fixed, and I’m in the process of getting that fixed, and I have my bag back. So it was the best-case scenario.”Katja signed off the Six O’Clock Show for the final time last week in an emotional goodbye with co-host Brian Dowling.
