Irish fashion retailer Born Clothing, which stocks brands such as Vero Moda, Only, and Vila, is shutting down after almost 17 years in business, with all 15 of its stores closing.
The High Court appointed provisional liquidators to the group last week, following a hearing that outlined the retailer’s struggles to recover from rising debt, the impact of the pandemic, increases in the minimum wage, and high business rates.
The retailer, which opened its doors in Newtownsmith, Galway, in 2009, operated over 20 stores across Ireland at its peak. The remaining 15 are now set to close as part of the company’s liquidation, putting 116 jobs at risk, according to RTÉ, Ireland’s national public service broadcaster.
A liquidation sale offering customers up to 70% off everything is currently underway. Its website has already shut down and now displays a liquidation notice explaining the conditions of items sold and the return policy.
In a post on Instagram, the company said that it wanted “to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your support over the years - for shopping with us, supporting us, and being part of our journey.” It also thanked its team for their loyalty and dedication.
