King Charles Condemns Violence and Backs Survivors in Congress Address
King Charles addressed both houses of Congress during his state visit to the United States, using a historic speech on Capitol Hill to praise the strength of the UK-US relationship and say the partnership is “more important today than it has ever been”.
Speaking in the Hall of the House, with Queen Camilla sitting nearby, the King acknowledged victims of sexual abuse, highlighted the “collective strength” of both nations to support survivors, and condemned the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, saying “such acts of violence will never succeed”.
The address also touched on Nato, Ukraine, democracy, America’s founding ideals and the long alliance between Britain and the United States, drawing applause, laughter and several standing ovations from members of Congress.
