Just how quick is the new Audi S5?
Well, we’ve got a hands-on three classic RS4s (the B5, B7 & B8), an original R8, and an R8 GT, and we’re going to put the S5 to the test! We’ll be running a series of winner-stays-on drag races to see which of these Audis is fastest overall!
But can the S5 make it to the final race? Let’s check out the stats…
In the first race, it’s the B5 RS4 up against the V7. The former is powered by a 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 with 380hp and 440Nm, while the B7 has a 4.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 with 420hp and 430Nm. Both cars have all wheel drive and 6-speed manuals, and the B7 is 100kg heavier, at 1,700kg. The B5 is now worth around £50,000, while the B7 comes in at £25,000.
The winner of this race faces the B8. It’s equipped with the same 4.2-litre NA V8 from the B7, but now it produces 450hp and 430Nm. It has AWD, a 7-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox, and it weighs 1,800kg. In 2026, it’s valued at around £18,000.
Following this comes the all-new B10 S5 Avant. It rolls up with a 3-litre V6 turbo engine, and this puts down 367hp and 550Nm. Just like the B8, it has All Wheel Drive and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, but it also weighs in at a hefty 2,000kg! In terms of cost with options, it’ll set you back around £75,000!
Then we come to the R8s. First up, it’s the Mk1 R8, which once again comes with the legendary 4.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8, and this produces 420hp and 430Nm. It comes with 4WD, a 6-speed manual, and it weighs in at only 1,560kg! As of today, it’s worth around £33,000.
Then, finally, it’s the Mk1 R8 GT Spider. It’s got a 4.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10, and this creates 560hp and 540Nm. Just like the other cars, it has all wheel drive, and it comes with a 6 speed automatic gearbox. It tips the scales at 1,640kg, and it’s currently worth around £75,000.
