Link road application submitted in next step for west Dublin housing plans

A link road that will help form a new affordable housing scheme in Cherry Orchard has been submitted for planning permission. The proposal moves the housing development a step closer to completion. The new link road will connect the development to Ballyfermot Road and creates a pedestrian route to the Cherry Orchard FC grounds located beside. It forms part of the plans for the Cherry Orchard affordable housing scheme which was approved three years ago with work expected to begin next year. The site is located between Cherry Orchard Hospital, Cherry Orchard FC and Wheatfield Prison. Over all the development is for 172 dwellings made up of 141 three-bedroom two-storey terraced houses and 31 two-bedroom two-storey terraced houses as well as two public open spaces. There are also plans for the development of a pocket park and children's playground on the eastern section of the lands. The application was initially approved on October 3 2022. While observations have been closed on the link road application, a decision is due soon. Another housing development planned for the Cherry Orchard area - located on lands beside Park West - will bring a further 1,131 homes to the area in four phases. Cherry Orchard Point is currently in phase two, with plans for 137 affordable purchase homes most recently submitted for approval.
