UK joins 26 other countries in demanding ECHR reforms

The UK has joined 26 other countries in demanding reforms to Europe’s main human rights treaty which, if implemented, would make it easier to deport illegal migrants.

Ministers have agreed to look at addressing concerns over migration within the legal framework of the European Convention on Human Rights. Here, the Conservatives and Reform have called for a complete withdrawal of the treaty.

We spoke to Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Michael O’Flaherty and began by asking him about warnings over misinformation surrounding the ECHR and migration.
