Ori is the world’s first frameless umbrella that unfolds like origami.
Unlike a normal umbrella that uses ribs and a metal frame to support its canopy, Ori’s design replaces those parts with a single continuous folding surface.
The canopy itself becomes the structure that opens and holds shape.
The umbrella’s full canopy, about one meter wide, compresses into a small cylinder roughly 3.5 centimeters across when folded.
This is made possible by an engineered folding pattern based on origami principles that allows the structure to support itself without traditional parts.
Because there are no ribs or hinges, the design aims to reduce typical failure points found in conventional umbrellas. Ori’s folding method and materials are intended to make it smaller when closed and stable when open.
Ori’s beauty comes from its simplicity. With no visible ribs or metal joints, the surface reads as one continuous piece, folding and unfolding in clean geometric lines.
The canopy looks almost sculpted, its form defined entirely by the origami pattern that gives it character and structure.
When closed, it compresses into a slim, perfectly cylindrical shape that feels more like a design object than an umbrella. When open, the folds create subtle planes of shadow and light, giving the canopy a quiet architectural elegance.
One notable feature of Ori is the small OLED display integrated into the handle or tip of the umbrella. This screen is bright and clear, showing simple graphics or indicators that are easy to read even in dim light or rain.
Because the display is OLED, each pixel emits its own light rather than relying on a separate backlight, which gives it crisp contrast and a thin profile. The technology allows for deep blacks and vivid colors in a compact space, making the screen both functional and visually striking without adding bulk.
It feels intentional, calm, and surprisingly refined, as if the entire object has been reduced to its essential geometry and nothing more.
In a product category where screens are uncommon, the OLED element stands out as a thoughtful addition rather than a distraction.
It delivers information directly and efficiently while maintaining the clean lines and minimal aesthetic of the overall design.
