Kremlin to recruit more than 400,000 troops who will most likely perish

According to the head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, Krylo Budanov has said that Moscow has filled their mobilisation plan this year and recruited 403,000 soldiers.

By early December Moscow recruited 403,000 and exceeded their mobilisation goals for 2025, for 2026 the Kremlin is planning to recruit 409,000.

Vladimir Putin will look to recruit contract soldiers who will be offered large sums of money or financial incentives, but the amounts vary depending on which region the recruits come from within Russia.

Budanov said, “Of course, there are problems. That’s why they periodically raise the level of one-time payments: it varies by region, but the amounts are significant. This is how they attract people to the army.”

Russia uses soldiers from ethnic minorities and poor parts of the Russia to fight in Ukraine, according to British intelligence who estimate that this year the Kremlin’s losses are more than 400,000 who have either been killed or severely wounded.

Budanov said that the Kremlin’s goals for 2026 is to take full control of the Donetsk region, place a large number of troops to advance into the Dnipropetrovsk region and continue with their offensive in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions; and to expand a “sanitary” buffer zones along the Russian border, RBC-Ukraine reported.
