Snowball ambush leaves driver, 60, dead after he is 'beaten' while trying to stop attack on his car in Holland

A 60-year-old man had died in Holland following a row over snowballs.

The man, from Schiedam, died on Monday at the Nieuwland metro station after complaining that he had been pelted with snowballs while sitting in his car.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in the Dutch city but could not resuscitate  him.

Two teenage boys - reportedly aged between 16 and 17 - have since been arrested in connection to the man's death.

Police identified the teens from security camera footage and are questioning them to see what role they may have played.

'A fight may have broken out after snowballs were thrown, and blows were exchanged,' Dutch police said in a statement.

'The investigation is ongoing to determine exactly what they did or said,' added authorities.

According to local media outlet Rijnmond, the police believe youths were lobbing snowballs at passing cars.

His cause of death has not yet been determined.

Like much of western Europe, the Netherlands has been grappling with wintry weather that has blanketed the country in snow, resulting in transport chaos.
