‘Once you've come out of the treatment... you've got this newfound sense of identity. You're learning to trust your body again, you're learning to walk a new path,’ says Dr Punam Krishan after being treated for breast cancer
Dr Punam Krishan – a former Scotsman columnist as well as a Strictly Come Dancing star and TV doctor – has revealed that she “cried in the car... cried in bed, cried in the shower” after she was diagnosed with breast cancer five months ago. She added that she had completed her treatment and was "healing, grateful, relieved" but "still shaken".
Speaking on the BBC's Morning Live, where she has appeared to give advice as a doctor, she said: "Once you've come out of the treatment, that isn't the end of it... you've got this newfound sense of identity. You're learning to trust your body again, you're learning to walk a new path, it's got this hyper alertness and vigilance... the nervous system still needs time to calm down and be like, 'you're safe, you're OK, everything's going to be OK'...”

But by doing so, the 42-year-old will have helped others going through the same experience. It’s another example of just how dedicated a doctor, and how thoroughly delightful as a person, she really is. We wish her all the best.
