Barca book place in Copa Del Rey quarter-finals

Barcelona saw off Segunda Division leaders Racing Santander 2-0 to book safe passage into the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey. With second-tier Albacete having stunned Real Madrid on Wednesday night, Hansi Flick's side were aiming to avoid becoming another scalp. Following a goalless first half at Estadio El Sardinero, Barcelona – who beat rivals Real Madrid to lift the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah on Sunday – eventually made the breakthrough in the 66th minute. Ferran Torres latched onto a through pass from Fermin Lopez to take the ball into the area and around the Santander goalkeeper. The home fans were on their feet 10 minutes later when substitute Manex Lozano broke clear to fire past Joan Garcia, but was ruled offside. Santander had another goal from Lozano disallowed for offside, with the 18-year-old striker then racing clear in stoppage time only to be denied by a brilliant save from Garcia – and Lamine Yamal wrapped things up for Barcelona when he tapped home a second following a swift counter. Thursday night’s other last-16 tie saw Valencia win 2-0 at Burgos with goals from Rubo and Umar Sadiq. In Serie A, AC Milan moved back to within three points of leaders Inter after a 3-1 win at Como with a second-half brace from Adrien Rabiot. Bologna came from behind to win 3-2 at Verona and close back up on the top six following a first league victory since late November.
