Geely unveils sub £30k Starray EM-i PHEV for UK market

Geely has revealed the Starray EM-i Super Hybrid PHEV as its next model for the UK market, with prices starting from £29,990 when it launches next month (February).

Designed and engineered from the ground up as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), there will be a choice of two different lithium iron phosphate battery packs – 18.4kWh and 29.8kWh – delivering electric-only range of up to 51 miles and 84 miles (WLTP), respectively.

The new addition joins the electric Geely EX5 as the brand continues its expansion into the UK market.

The powertrain of the new five-seat, family-focused SUV, combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine and compact electric motor for a combined output of 193kW/262Nm, enabling 0-62mph in eight seconds.

Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions start from 2.4L/100km and 54g/km for the smaller battery and 1.4L/100km and 32g/km for the larger option.

Fast-charging capability is included, with the 18.4kWh version supporting 30kW DC charging and the 29.8kWh battery capable of up to 60kW DC.

Geely said a 30–80% charge can take as little as 20 minutes for the smaller battery and 16 minutes for the larger pack.

Using a 7kW AC wallbox, a 25–100% charge can be completed in around three hours or 4.6 hours, respectively.

Michael Yang, general manager of Geely Auto UK, said: “When we launched our brand in the UK we said that we would deliver technologically focused, smart and attainable new energy vehicle mobility, while at the same time striving to offer excellent customer service.

“We’re doing exactly that, and after making our debut with an electric SUV and more than doubling our number of dealerships, we are now confidently building on that success by introducing a state-of-the-art super hybrid – the Starray EM-i.”

Yang believes the new model will appeal to those customers who want the benefits of electric driving, but who may not yet be ready for a fully electric vehicle (EV).

The new Starray EM-i will come with an eight year or 125,000 miles warranty for both the vehicle and the battery.

With its first model, Geely EX5, launched in October 2025, a total of 10 models are planned over the next three years and an annual sales volume of more than 100,000 units.
